Yeah, add a lot of alcohol to your substrate water. It will really help. Get denatured if you can and mix it at a 3:1 ratio. Come back and post your results.

P.S. This is a joke. Don't try this.

Since your using it in your substrate before you cook them, it would be rather useless. The alcohol would evaporate when heated, and Im not sure what the H2O2 would do, but I think heat breaks it down. So Just use water and forget the extra steps. bluhoney

bluhoney is right, the h2o2 would break down and leave you with water so you would realy be wasting your time(and money) and the alcohol would evaporate and leave you with less moisture than you intended. it never hurts to use h2o2 in your tererium though. i use about a three percent solution in water with my perlite humidification and it sems to prolong to longevity of my cakes.
if you are having contam problems during colonisation i would sugest reviewing your methods and trying to figure out the point of contamination. some of the most common are improper sterilization, introduction during innoculation and incubation conditions.
i recomend presoaking or leaving brf or grains in the jars for about 12 hours rpior to sterilization to allow all mould spore and bacterial endospores to jerminate making them easier to kill(especialy since i no longer have a pressure cooker). since i started doing this i have had signifigantly lower contam ratios.
