installing new BIOS
    #8067791 - 02/25/08 07:30 AM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I found out theres a new BIOS for my motherboard and I have one that's 2 years older, so I think I should really update.

I want to install in but I don't have a disk drive (who uses those anymore!?)

is there a way to start up in DOS so I can run the AWDFLASH.EXE to install the new BIOS?
(I've downloaded the right one from the motherboard's manufacturers website)

tried to make a bootable USB stick with dos system files on it, but it didn't startup from that even though I selected USB as boot device in the bios (maybe I should have selected the main boot device as USB..)

hmm... I tried updating the bios with a boot-dvd that I made

booted in dos, awdflash.exe started up fine, but after typing in and saying yes/no for saving it sais "source file not found"

wtf!?

update: eventually found a bios installer tool and everything worked out fine:tongue2:

BIOS updating is usually not all that important, IMO, unless you are having problems.

I'd read your manufacturer's notes on updating the BIOS to make sure you actually need to do it.

computer is faster now, supports newer faster memory. my videocard wasn't working properly with 3d applications, but it didn't make a difference, and suddenly my disk drive finally got recognized (never worked). not that I really need it anymore :smirk:
