Hope for the best... but expect the worst.
Save some spores, you may need to start over.
Pick a tek and stick to it. Or buy a grow bag from a vendor. The first time is not a time to experiment.

Expect failure. Whatever you do, follow the tek exactly. Do that, and you won't fail. Try rye.

For my first time, I fucked up bad. Resist the urge to open the lid and look. Water is a mushrooms best friend, just make sure to not overdo it. As is fresh air during the fruiting stage. It is definitely a learning process. I have learned a whole bunch since my first grow, which was just a month and a half ago. Patience also comes in handy. I recomend using the PF tek for your first time. :/ Just my two cents. GOOD LUCK!

So in summary, wear your diving suit, don't just assume she's telling you the truth about her age, be very clean. sterilize everything. Hope for the best... but expect the worst. Expect failure. and remember... Resist the urge to open the lid and look.
anything else?

If you follow a tek to the "T"...
depending on how well you comprehend what you read...
you can be very sucessful.

I'm about to start out for my first time. I've been reading sporadically for the past 4 or 5 years, but heavily the past few months. I am expecting nothing more than a learning experience. Although, I'm Hoping for a lot. =P
Maybe explain what you plan on doing and how you plan on doing it, and then let us here offer some constructive criticism. If no one answers though (like my post a few days ago) is that a good or bad thing?
Good Luck.

Well right now I am following a guide back at the main site called Simple Cubensis Growing Technique 4.40. I am following it exactly with the exeption of the pressure cooker (I can't get one). Instead, I will use a large pot to boil the jars in.
I was just wondering, is this box I made for injecting the jars with good enough? [image] [/image]

yes, your box is good enough. A cardboard box with two arm holes and a peice of glass across the top to see in will do if all you want is a "glove"/"still air" box.
And, check thrift stores and amazon for cookers. They're everywhere- they should be one of the easiest items to find.

The box looks fine. I don't even use a glove box when doing multispore inoculations... but better safe than sorry.
If you do NOT have a PC, you better be using Brown Rice Flower and vermiculite as your substrate.
Have you seen the FOUR, Let's Grow Mushrooms PF Tek videos on You Tube? If you have not... go to www.youtube.com right now and enjoy!
I don't suggest skipping the pressure cooker... if your tek calls for one.
Like RoadKill said... you have to follow your tek to a, "T"... n00bs shouldn't experiment or stray from a tek. Get a successful grow under your belt BEFORE you start changing teks.
Good luck!

Great point B.
A new grower should expect this process to take LONGER than they initially think it might.
