Spawn to coir, case with peatmoss?
    #8065982 - 02/24/08 07:55 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

How effective would spawning colonized rye berrys to pasterized coco coir, letting it colonizing, then adding a casing layer mixed with verm and peatmoss?

I was reading and coco coir isn't a good caseing because the mycelium will colonize it all, so that means it will colonize the sub as is.

Then after I have a bulk tub with my colonized coco coir, I would add the caseing layer of verm/peat and let it colonize a lil more than add pinning parameters.

I was thinking I wouldnt have to pasterize the verm and peat and I should be able to use it straight from the bag because its going to be non nutritive

although it couldn't hurt to sterilize your casing..

You would want to pasteurize the casing materials.

Thanks for the advice.. I've been experimenting and learning soon I shall get my tek down. So I will probly pasterize the caseing layer same as my bulk substrate (coco coir). By putting it in the ocean at 160 for an hour. Im geussing make it a little more than field capacity because it will dry out. Then I can I add more water to it as necesary? Would pasterizing close the window for contams for a few weeks? so i can add anything non nutritive/ not worry bout contams
