OK, today I inoculated 6 - 1 pint jars with by the Pf tek with India #2 and I have 5 pounds of WBS soaking to work in the A.M. I'm going to do PE and B+ with those. And I also have Cambodian and am leaning towards the WBS and casing with that to. Ive ordered 50/40 verm/coir for the casing and I can get whatever I may need But my thought was to do all with the 50/40 and maybe some added goodies. I'm wondering about casing the WBS when its ready though. Ive read about everything I can find but would like to hear from you guys.

don't case your birdseed, spawn it to a more nutritious substrate like coir or horse manure.

Negative, spawning refers to the process of mixing your grain with a nutritious pasteurized substrate.
Casing is the process of covering your substrate of choice with a non-nutritious medium that holds moisture.

Here is my grow area/FC, not a great pic I know but its hard to see through. There are 5 BRF pint jars with Orissa India. 6 BRF pint jars with B+. 6 WBS pint jars with Penis Envy. The last one is a oak sawdust based log of shiitake, and those doing great!!!!!!!

nice
today i did my first inoculation of 8 1/2 pt. jars with cambodian. i'm kind of dissapointed in myself. i think may have contaminated my spore syringe after ~2 jars were done by accidentally sucking up a tiny tiny bit of air while it was inside my glovebox (my finger hit it and it by accident and the plunger went up a little bit. we'll find out if that ruins my jars
i might go ahead and order another 1-2 syringes just so they'll be here by the time contams should start appearing...

nice setup, but man you need to keep those jars in the dark until they are colonized.

WBS fruits just fine by itself=see the pics in my sig? That is straight WBS cased with a layer of 100% Coir(It's better to use it as a casing material than a substrate=(IME & IMO) and nothing else. WBS does just fine by itself if it is prepared properly.
But, I would spawn it to straw or poo or both to get even better results.
Just my two pennies worth of rambling on

Ok, for you guys that might be thanking about building an FC this big, Thank twice. Its working but keeping the RH up is not easy. I have a cool-mist with ultrasonic misters, and 2 Misters I built from buckets, with misters, fish tank pumps and air stone , and 4in fans. Like I say, its working but man what a pain in the ass. I have the RH at 90 now with nothing in it but Suspect it will go up when I fill it in a few weeks. And I am going to fill that thing up!!!!!!!! Oh and the heat has to be up high with the RH at 90% the radiator has to be up pretty high. I used radiant heat.

Just wanted to update, I moved all my jars to the incubator on 3/3 and there doing good. This is PE on WBS and was only 20% colonized 24 hours ago.
[image]http:// [/image]
This is Cambodian on BRF and was inoculated with syringes I made myself for the first time on 3/2 not to bad.
[image]http:// [/image]
This is B+ on BRF in 1 pint jars and is going slow, its around 8 days but its growing. Maybe its a little dry?
[image]http:// [/image]
So far I have no contamination and the only ones to be tossed I screwed up by adding to much water, I put them in the garden Ya never know.
