possibly stupid beginner question BRF + peat moss

This may be a stupid question, but I was wondering this for a while now... Can you use the classic BFR pf-tek cakes in the peat moss/hay/popcorn cultivation technique instead of the colonized birdseed? Can you crumble it up and do the same thing? Does it increase fruit yield? How easy is it? Links?
thanks. If this is a moronic question, sorry.

So straw is the best medium? Is this a good method:

I think that the best bulks are generally accepted to be either Hpoo/Straw, or Coir/Coffee. They are pretty evenly matched, but the hpoo route is generally regarded as better, maybe because it's more tried and true. Hpoo/Straw is also way cheaper. Straw is way, way cheap, and Hpoo is free.. if you're resourceful enough to find them yourself, that is. I use Coir/Coffee, because I don't want to cook horse shit in my kitchen.

Not sure if there really is a "tek" for coir/coffee. It really couldn't be any easier, though. First of all, if you need to know where to find anything, check out my handy-dandy "Where the fuck do I get that shit?" thread.
Anyway, Just get the brick of coir and put it in a bucket with hot water. Let it sit for a while, until it is all soft. Then, break it all up and mix it with like 20% coffee. Make sure that the mixture is at field capacity. Basically, when you give it a good solid squeeze, only a few drops should come out. You can also add up to %10 gypsum by volume, which is said to increase yields, and relieves clumpiness. I also add %10 verm by volume. Whatever. When you have your mix all mixed, pasteurize it!! Heat it up to ~160 degrees Fahrenheit for about 2 hours or so. Let it cool overnight. The next day, mix your spawn into it and wait.
Sorry if I dumbed it down too much. I don't know what you know, you know? Also, the volumes are all in play and not set in stone. Search around, read a lot, and see what works for you.

If the Hpoo is properly sundried, then it smells exactly like soil or plant compost. I find the smell of cooking birdseed much more intense and nauseating than pasteurizing doodoo - proper sun dried doodoo that is.
