Minimal lighting for a 30 gal monotub set up ?

Hey, will a 4 watt "night-light" suffice for a 30 gal mono-tub? It seems like I read somewhere that fruiting could even occur in total darkness. Any opinions on lighting would be appreciated.
Cheers,
PM

Light goes through your medium- it doesn't stop at the surface. It needs to be intense enough to penetrate the substrate- based on mass and age of colony, strain, and prolly a lota other things- would change the "perfect lighting" sweet spot.
So I used the search at the top of the page and asked about light penetration versus pinset/speed of pinning:

You could sell hyphae "IMEs" and "IMOs" for some peoples' first born. I swear... If anyone knows about pinning stratagies... *grin* (or my bad spelling)
IME no light has made mushrooms in monos- so I guess if that would "suffice" then a 4watt couldn't be any less.
Indirect natural light works too.

I use a 6,500K CFL in a reflective shield ..... to direct the intense light directly onto (and into)the substrate surface. $8 at Walmart.
Good luck, MAN

If you put tin foil or other reflective surface around the walls you will get the most out of your night light.

Manna Eater said use some aluminum foil, that will work fine. Or he hints about other reflective material. For like 75 cents go to wally world in the camping section and grab a heat blanket or two. This is mylar. Not grow grade. But has much better qualities than aluminum foil. Also, it's very very cheap.
The problem with aluminum foil is it crinkles really easy, if not kept perfectly smooth than the foil bounces the rays all over the place. Not necessarily where you want them. If you try and pull it tight, it will rip. Mylar is much stronger, will still rip pretty easy though; but has a much smoother surface and will direct your light much better.
