How do you get a normally busy park all to yourself?
    #8064806 - 02/24/08 02:47 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

Just wait for a rainy day!

I wanted to go hiking and do some geocaching around Mission Trails Regional Park this weekend. Normally its a hard thing to do on a weekend (the geocaching, that is) because this place is absolutely crawling with hikers, mountain-bikers, etc. and it makes hunting for geocaches near immpossible without drawing attention to yourself.

But I woke up this morning to a rainy day and thought "Hey, this is perfect!". So I grabbed my raingear and off I went. I hiked for miles, all over the park for hours, hunting for geocaches in pleasant privacy the whole time. I saw a grand total of 5 other people out there all day! That is unheard of at MTRP! On a nice-weather Sunday you would be within shouting distance of 5 people at any given point in time!

I did get pretty wet and muddy by the end of the day but it was a blast. So next time its raining don't let that scare you off. Grab your boots and your rainger and get out there. It'll probably be one of the best days on the trail!

Yeah man, I went backpacking in Pt. Reyes National Seashore and the ranger told me I had the whole park to myself.. which is rare - it sounds a lot like the place you went to; dense traffic. I got completely soaked and was miserable at night because it seemed to stretch on forever ( it was december), but it was a great feeling knowing that there was no one within miles and miles.

Back in highschool, that was THE PLACE to smoke at.

Get baked and explore the trails. Ahhh.

Not during the hottest of summer nights though. That's when all the tarantulas come out.

Ugh.

If you live up near Point Reyes and want a park to yourself, why don't you just hike into the Lost Coast
