Intestinal/bowel cleansing...

Hippie propaganda or truly beneficial?
What i've read numerous times tells me that "harmful toxins build up and stagnate in your intestines and block nutrients from being absorbed."
However - i've also read that this being the premise for fasting/cleansing is NOT true from a scientific perspective, and especially that "meat does not rot in the gut, this is simply not true" ... which healthy circles/vegetarians often tout off as one of their reasons in their doctrine.
Its hard to argue with the slude of intestinal crud that comes out the ass of a Master Cleanser though. ... __________________________
I fart alot, rank gas, crippling stomach cramping gas if i cant let it out fully. I do not believe this is right and can only conclude that "my intestines are filled with rotting shit" -
I have not and will not have the time to do a 12 day cleanse anytime soon, but would like to take some herbal cleanse without too much diet restriction to clean myself out.
Does anyone have any knowledge of the products available, or thoughts of the efficacy of what im trying to do?
(many websites with the issue are trying to sell you their products. Wheres the objective information.)

It really depends on the person.
For certain conditions, many experts do theorize that colon cleansing may be beneficial, such as with fecal impactment or occlusion.
Although the benefits may be no better than simply keeping a high fiber diet.

Nop. Ive heard actual people, day to day who tell me about this stuff too. They tried to tell me what it looked like but not really anything as obtrusive as the pics.

Well, hey, I might try it sometime just to see.
But so far I've found this fiber craze to be out of control. I've found much more benefits NOT taking my psyllium husk every night, and reducing my veggie consumption. Upping the fats is what does it. I don't believe in the whole fasting thing at all either.

psyllium is the worst kind of fiber for most people. many do not like it, i am one of them. it makes me gassy and bloated.
try ground falx seed instead, or another non psyllium fiber mix.
i usually fast on sundays. i feel refreshed come monday. it gives your body time to catch up.

That's a good one. I've kept mad photos and probably a total of 2-3 hours of video clips since I started doing this 4 1/2 years ago, and while I can't prove that any of it is what I say it is, I figure if I'm not trying to sell anything or shilling for some company maybe it'll be more convincing.
Just last month I was on day 9 of a 10 day fast, I was traveling and I started to feel really sick. I had to battle it throughout the day but I went and bought a ghetto enema from Wal-Mart and proceeded to launch the equivalent of 2-3 pop cans worth of rock hard, foul smelling something or other. I've LONG given up trying to figure out what the stuff is.
I agree that a lot of what's out there is hooey, and a lot of times it's just the fiber or whatever you've drank coming out, but after 3, 5, 10 days of eating nothing, and many many bowls full of goop, a guy should NOT have over a pound of solid stuff coming out of him.
Good luck, and let us know.

So far ive done 2 days and this is my third night.
I definately feel this is a HOAX product, and i feel shammed by the health food store whom i trust!
There has been near no results this far.
The laxative which you take at bed time, is very mild in the morning and my bowel movements are pretty much normal and on a regular schedule.
I do feel less inclined to snack all day like i usually do.
This cleanse consists of:
- Milk thistle to promote liver health and stimulate bile production.
- A herbal laxative (supposedly healthier than a chemical laxative)
+ Fibre (psillyum (Sp) based) ________________
The lady at the health food store said that "there was NO WAY" i could get the fibre id need to cleanse my guts naturally...
I was skeptical immediately upon opening the package when there was an asterisx beside ALL of their claims saying
"*this statement not evaluated by the FDA"
+ the rest of their marketing seems cheesy.
However this is only day 2.. Perhaps in the next 12 days i will see results.

Hmmm, that brand is one of the better ones out there, but maybe their "cleanse" is an exception.
For me personally, there's NOTHING close to the cleansing power of a 3 day (or more) fresh juice fast. When the body has a chance to work, it'll take care of business itself.
If you feel ripped, take it back and at least get credit. Almost all companies compensate the individual stores for returns, so chance are that the store wouldn't be out anything. And even if they were, you should be satisfied with your purchase.

what she SHOULD have said was that there is no way you could get all of the fiber you need through your regular diet.
that does not seem like a very productive list of ingredients. any of the good cleanes that ive heard of through friends and family have like 10+ ingredients, and none of them were psyllium.
the sad thing is, not all health food stores know what theyre talking about and many of them are just out for profit, few actually care past the register.

Milk thistle really is a powerful liver cleanser. But you definitly can get 'all the fibre you need' to clean out your gut through normal food. It's just silly to claim otherwise.
As for cleansing, women should do it no more than once a year, in the spring (menstruation is already a pretty regular purge) and men don't really need to do it any more than once or twice a year. Spring is the best time for everyone, and I really think that it's ideal to do it with fresh seasonal herbs. Nettles come up early and they're a good blood builder/cleanser. Then when whatever berries come up eat a lot of those. Salmon berries are my faves. Mmm, the seeds are totally fibrous. They'll scrape your gut clean and taste good without costing you a dime, while you're at it. You can harvest your own milk thistle, oregon grape root, dandelion root, yellow dock or whatever have around you as a bitter cleanser. Roots are to be harvested in the fall. I like to have orgegon grape roots around to chew on when I have an upset stomache. Cleavers too, good for lymphatic cleansing.

Its day 5/6 and i missed one evening this weekend becaused i had a few drinks. Not conducive to cleansing, but the package also did not mention to avoid drinking..
Anyways, Im feeling very weak and sore 2 + 3 days after semi-strenuous exercise, and my mouth has an excess of bile. I've been supplementing some meals with ground flax..
Healing time seems to be reduced even though my diet has been more or less the same.
This exhaustion and soreness has caught me by surprise, as this is not a "whole body cleanse."

Yes, i think i would prefer a full body cleanse that requires a stricter diet...
day 9:
This is clearly a cop-out product. The ONLY effects i have noticed are a punctual bowel movement every morning + i have rank gas. (whats up with this?!) Also, ive felt MORE hungry for the last 4 days or so.. almost uncontrollably so, despite maintaining my regular diet.
Perhaps it would help some people with regularity (and the lady at the health food store confirmed this, when i bought it.).. but i dont see much else.
However, i do have 5 days left.. I have disobeyed a couple suggestions (had coffee, and eggs today, and have been exercising aggressively some days.)
So who knows... I got into this hopeing (sp?) to stop farting so much and now im farting more and worse!

Yeah the diet is always gonna be the key to ANYTHING involving health. When I cleanse, even though I rarely if ever have gas these says, sometimes it gets ugly as goop comes out of me. Again, if you're not happy, consider asking the health food store if the company reimburses them or if the store has to eat a return.

PDU, you may want to look into a 5-7 day juice fast. nothing but vegetable, fruit juices and water, so that way you are still getting all of the vitamins and nutrients you need. however this is only advised if you do not have a strenuous job, and you have your own juicer so you can get fresh juice. canned and bottled juices are worthless.

Yeah, the one day a week juice fast is a staple for sure. Sometimes I only go from say dinner on Saturday until dinner on Sunday if I'm REAL hungry.
It's amazing to think the billions in health care that would be saved if all Americans would do this. Fasting for a total of 7 1/2 weeks a year makes a BIG difference.

anyone ever try the master cleanse?
its a "juice" fast consisting of water, apple cider vinegar, cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and maple syrup, fallowed by warm salt water in the mornings as a laxative. it's supposed to have all the essential nutrients, and you do it for at least 10 days, although i'm sure you can do it less if you want. you drink it whenever you feel hungry.
i've had friends say they shat bricks after 3-4 days.
it's supposed to be a total cleanse.
check it - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_cleanse

Yup, a couple of times. I usually start my fasts off with a couple of days of "cleansing". Usually I'll move from the MC to mostly fruit and then into more veggies to build and keep weight on.
I HATE the salt water flushes, and I don't do them.
And I've had stuff come out of me daily no matter how long I've gone.
