I was in the drugstore picking up some isopropol earlier and in the same section they had the following products grouped together.
Does anybody have any experience of these as regards effectiveness, hazardous to human healthness, and other nesses?
- Saponated cresol.
Citric acid hydrate.
Glycerin.
Sodium hypochlorite.
Anhydrous ethanol.
Oxydol.
Ethalight.
Thanks a lot folks.

http://www.shroomery.org
Why don't we just close The Shroomery down altogether?

Effectiveness for what? What are you trying to do, sanitize surfaces? Isopropanol works fine for that.

Yes, we should shut down the Shroomery because someone showed you where to search for the answer to your question(s).

1. Saponated Cresol-
Used in hospital sometimes to disinfect surfaces. It's probably toxic. But you can find the MSDS on inchem.org.
2. Citric Acid Hydrate
An odorless, biodegradable disinfectant. But i wouldn't use this one because it is a well known fungicide.
3. Glycerine It is used as a substitute for ethanol as a solvent in preparing herbal extractions. It is less extractive and is approximately 30% less able to be absorbed by the body. It is also used in plastics, antifreeze, ointments, ink, brake fluid and coloring substances. I wouldn't use this one either. It is an alcohol though...

4. Sodium Hypochlorite This is effective as a sanitizing agent and is the primary ingredient in household bleach products.
5. Anhydrous Ethanol This is simply a purer form of ethanol...which is an alcohol and would be equivalent to using isopropyl alcohol.
6.Oxydol This is simply a laundry detergent. I would not use this for obvious reasons...

7. Ethalight This is a well known disinfectant. But I wouldn't advise substituting for isopropyl alcohol because it's fumes are much more noxious. Alcohol is something we have grown accustomed to.
And by the way...all of this information was found on google/ Wikipedia. If your store doesn't carry isopropyl then anhydrous ethanol will be fine. Hope this helped.

You can use 10% Bleach, 90% water. This will kill spores but not live mycelium. anywhere above 20% of bleach at least is too much IMO.
Vinegar.
Just to let you know ISO is a sanitizer not a sterilizer. Don't use it in spray bottles as this would just make a waiting fireball. Lysol is 70% compressed Rubbing Alcohol + over expensive. For air sanitizer use Ozium as it's recommended by Dr.s For Hospital sanitizer. Used in surgeries, lab work, and in day cares for children. Don't Inhale it. As with even working with Lysol it says it on the bottle. Spray and vacant the room for 5 minutes and re enter. Ozium will keep killing bacterial spores in the air for 3-4 hours but it's the #1 Air Sanitizer out there.

Ozium is also good for getting rid of smell in the car quickly when you are being pulled over by
I speak from experience.
