Well, a tiny 12-18 quart tub got turned into this:

(rye spawned to coir/coffee grounds and cased with 'approx' 60 verm/30 coir/10 perlite)

Nice tub you have there- I like seeing how coffee grows come out. Keep us updated. Also with your camera, if you have a macro setting on it (usally a flower) you should roll with that. It will make your closeups much more clear.

Thanks for the tip, but it's ON macro.
The first shot was taken through the outside of the tub.
The second pic was with the flash on, and was taken with the lid raised up for only a brief moment (so the camera was not held steady).
Better to have crappy pics than to have contams (or loss of humidity). It was hard to get myself to even take the lid off for a picture.

For sure, I feel yeah- flash and macro next really work well together, the flash on most camera is made for distance.

Actually, contaminants in a fruiting chamber are caused by NOT removing the lid enough. In fact, I often fruit terrarium/tub grows with the lid completely off for the whole two to three weeks they're in there. Fresh air prevents contaminants from getting a start. Still air encourages them. The humidity will still be high down inside the tub, even if you throw the lid away. RR

So...you can remove the lid, and you don't even need to mist?

just a noob question when you said "rye spawned to coir/coffee grounds and cased with 'approx' 60 verm/30 coir/10 perlite"
i understand the casing part of of this statement. but what is meant by rye spawed to coir/coffee. did you colonize the rye first then spread to coir/coffee. or do u colonize a mix of rye/coir/coffee?
sorry about what maybe a dumb question. I just haven't come across this step yet anywhere

Colonizing rye (thanks Magash): http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=Forum2&Number=4577994&Searchpage=1&Main=4576865&Words=rye&topic=&Search=true#Post4577994 (and a few other things about casing, greenhouse setup, etc.)
Spawning To Coir: (thanks Oatman) http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/5909750/page/0/fpart/all/vc/1/nt/2
Next time I'll be semi-pasteurizing the coir in the microwave per Agar's microwave tek instead of the 5 gallon bucket.
Monotub (thanks Ohm): http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5276282#5276282
By the way, the "search posts" function is a great tool.
P.S.- ...and thanks to Blutjager for steering me into the light. , and definitely to Agar and RogerRabbit for their countless instances of advice and guidance in my own search for knowledge and skill.

it's not a dumb question at all spawn is generally what you first inoculate for the grow. Usually a grain(rye, wbs ect.) you spawn that to a bulk substrate in this case a mixture of coir and coffee.

I can say that opening the lid on a tub like that wont hurt it, I did it probally 50 times to fan a tub I had, it had no poly fill holes so had to keep it fanned like mad..
No contams until 4th flush!..
Fresh air keeps mold from taking off..

So are you guys sayin you can just put a casing on a shelf or something and the humidity wont matter cause the casing is providing all it needs?

no it still needs to be in a chamber...the walls will has water droplets on it sorta keeping moisture while the casing itself has the rest (i think im rigt on this.....)

This particular monotub was placed into the GH.
However, as per RR the lid can be removed from the tub, and the casing layer will provide enough microclimate on it's own.
I would think you would still need to mist the casing layer doing it that way though.

PFFFT! You call that small?
I once made a monotub out of one of those little plastic huts you buy rotisserie chickens in from Wal-Mart.
Pan cyan LC -> Rye -> Hpoo
It worked perfectly... except for one thing. The alleged Pan cyan spores were actually cube spores!

yeah, if you live in a hut in the amazon. Humidity rises, why is it you think having the lid off wouldnt cause the humidity to escape? Or that the ambient RH wouldnt leech the casing dry?
I convinced that RR has become a mushroom and has converted his house to a terrarium, theres no other way to explain some of the things he claims work.
Bah, what do i know, im just a noob, hey OP, leave the lid off for the entire grow and tell us how it goes! lol.
edit: oops, didnt mean to ressurrect a dead post. Oh well, this zombie needed to be let out.
