i am just about ready to go ahead and case some rye grains. just waiting on a couple jars to fully colonize first though....
i had only one contamination and had 4 jars that i was not sure was mycelium or not due to lc looking colorful lol...
i was wondering since i am about to case last grow i used 3 quart jars per pan. forgot the pan dimensions but i was wondering if i use 4 quart jars this time instead of three will i see more yield or more flushes????
or would i be better just using 3 quart jars per pan and just make more pans instead of increasing from 3 jars to 4 jars? not sure if 1 extra jar will make what difference ... thanks

okay just measured out my casing pans... i have 6,
9"wide x 13" long x 3"deep ... probably go with 2.5 inches deep of substrate and then half inch deep casing on top sound good??? i have 15 quart jars ready to case... so i think i can go with 5 trays with 3 quarts per tray.. or go with 4 quarts jars per tray with total of 4... which would i get more yield from?

are to spawning to bulk? Search for the spawn ratio calculator to figure out the ratios and what will give you a certain depth of substrate.

The way it works for me, the more the better... i have used up to four quarts in a single myco bag. The only thing i have noticed is. it speeds up the time from the day you make it(bag, tub) to pin.

And when it comes to that fantastic note where the rabbit bites its own head off, I want you to THROW THAT FUCKING RADIO INTO THE TUB WITH ME! Not me. It would blast you through the wall stone dead in ten seconds and they'd make me explain VVVVV Free Myco Thread

Spawn to coir, coir is easy to find and prepare and a great bulk sub just make sure to add used coffee grounds.
using coir I use about 1/3-1/2 of a jar of grain spawn in every pan

As long as you perserve your ratio of grain to substrate medium, more will give you more; fruit and extended flushing.
Without factoring in the quality of your grain prep and inoculation proceedures, growing area...
Then IME smaller ratio can help growers reach 100% colonization faster, trading medium for more spawn. You then hold less water, most the time, but have more potential for more & yeilding fruit longer. One flush can really dehydrate a caseing, especially when its explosive and massive, and sometimes even before the flush met its full potential, leaving mushrooms that had to deal with being slightly thirsty.
A larger ratio can take longer to colonize. Trading out spawn for more medium tests your skills a bit more. The longer uncolonized mediums sit around, the more chance the wrong spores take over, or a number of other things. I belive this way leads to more biggens, than those with less water, due to them being able to take what the want, when they want, all the way till you want.
Again if your prep stages with grain had any faults, your window
But, thats really just help for newer growers, all those variables can be altered to have it work either way with maximum potential. As a first timer, success, what-so-ever is the first desire I think everyone wants- then you can adjust... and soak, wash, rinse, repeat.

Depending on agressiveness and mass of substrate- your answer is good, but i'd make it a tad lighter for the first time- I looking at caseing like patching- you can just add more if you need to knock it back.

well, i followed rr's rye tek. this is my second time using his tek and my last grow which is actually my second ever grow came out great. even though my first grow was back in 2005 i took a break until this past dec 2007 and now i am using his tek again and my notes from the first time so now it went a little better i think. i just went ahead and doubled what i did my last grow which was only 6 rye grain quart jars which i made two casing trays out of and got 3 flushes from each tray and ended up with about 3-4 oz's of dried shrooms... i thought it was good... so this time i doubled it lol.. i will have 6 trays this time...
