Question about humidity level in FC
    #8059623 - 02/23/08 09:11 AM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I have a question about the humidity level in my fruiting chamber. How can I tell that there is enough humidity if I don't have a hygrometer? I have constructed a poor mans terrarium and have filled the bottom with 1 inch of moist perlite, and i'm not seeing much humidity buildup. Then I tried adding perlite that was soaked with water, and I still don't see much humidity buildup. I have made it from an old soap container, and the plastic is thicker than the one in most soda bottles, so maybe thats the reason. There are no holes in the terrarium. I see beads of water droplets all around the sides of the terrarium, but not much humidity. How is the humidity supposed to look like, should it be very foggy so that I can't really see much, or what? Also, do cakes that have been dunked add anything to the increase of humidity?

If there are beads of water on the side of the terrarium your humidity is okay. Also makes sure there is no standing water in your perlite, as it will leads to contams. With no holes in your terrarium I assume you are misting/fanning?

Yes I fan it twice a day. There is some standing water, but I keep my cake on a jar lid, but I guess I can drain some of the water out. I don't know why I'm having a problem with this one, I used a 2 liter soda bottle for my last grow, but it was too small, so I decided to try something bigger. Like I said, the plastic is thicker in the one I am using now, so maybe thats why the humidity is harder to see?
