I don't know much about mercury's toxic affects and such besides that it causes brain damage. What I'm wondering is if you bind mercury with other different elements and compounds to make a new molecule (with the mercury atom in it), is it still dangerous, or can that mercury atom be safe?

Look at table salt for example, chlorine is highly toxic gas in pure form, and sodium is highly reactive in an explosive manner with water, but combined they make table salt, a very safe chemical.
