I have found that the tighter one defines their goals, the closer one gets to the goal.
Quote:
About 10 years ago I did a ninety day 'body transformtation' challenge. One of the premises was 'no excuses'. I set aside the time and took pictures and got my mind right. I had my workout program and diet all laid out.
In the third week I got a nasty flu and wanted to quit, but I continued 'no matter what'. I cut my workouts in half so as not to be stupid and debilitate myself.
A few weeks later, I seriously injured my back to where I could barely walk. At first I was so frustrated, but told myself I will continue with the things that I can work on and adjust my regimen.
Because of the setbacks and time limitations, I missed my goal, but made amazing progress in both strength and physique.
I am in the process of doing 8 weeks of a physical fitness program designed by Charles Staley called Escalating Density Training. The idea is to do timed sets and beat your record every time you do the sets for that exercise. One constantly moves forward. I am on week 6 and I have enjoyed a tremendous explosion of strength. I have built muscles like I have never even imagined that I would have in just a short while. My total workloads have literally doubled since I started. It has been a spiritual journey as much as a physical one. I find myself constantly forced beyond my comfort zone again and again. It has taught me much about dealing with internal resistance as it constantly challenges one to go farther and push harder. It is VERY intense. I am seeking to bring this quality to other aspects of my life. That is what brought me to reading the article. While I understand that there are things beyond my control, my point has been that anything that CAN be affected by direct action of the will is merely choice.
-------------------- "A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda
