humidity in jars... uh oh
    #8058882 - 02/23/08 12:03 AM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I had been incubating my jars at about 80-85f for about 3 days until noticing that moisture was accumulating at the top of the container from them. Now that I look at the jars I am pretty certain that there is not enough moisture to harbor mycellum growth. The jars still look sterile, though I dont know what to do to add moisture to them.

Is it possible to inoculate the jars with sterilzed water? Pretty much, I can see little bits of moisture on the sides of the jar when I shake it, but the cake doesnt stick together well at all (birdseed/horsepoo). How much water would be sufficient for a jar that looks somewhat dry?

You shouldn't be seeing moisture in the jar unless your water content is off.

edit: 3 days? A lack of patience will kill you in this hobby.

85 is too hot. the substrate temp is usally a couple degrees hotter then the incubator temp. try setting it around 78-80

Drop your temp at least 10 degrees sir.  80-85 can be 86-91 on the inside.  Your squeezing the water out of em.

JUST because you see water on the glass does not mean it has anything to do with humidty.  It has to do with temperature difference between the two zones seperated by the glass.

Search the "Straw Tek" and "Rehydtrating Jars" and you will have some options to choose from.  Though, without germination yet it can be a bitch.  Better to just recook your jars with correct water content, and start anew.

Poop and birdseed as a cake?  Please post your results with this one.

Don't mess with them. Return to room temp and be patient. They didn't dry out in three days.
