parafilm has better texture easier to use in mycology than cling wrap and also has different thickness's you can buy which is a plus....Also cling wrap is made from pvc (Polyvinyl chloride) which is hazardous to humans and the enviroment and some countries have banned it from being used.To my knowledge parafilm is made from olefin waxes which are not harmful in anyway.

Glad Cling Wrap is made of 100% polyethylene. In what way would it be hazardous for you to wrap your agar plates with it?

Glad Cling Wrap is gas permeable. Saran Wrap and a few other brands aren't.

No. Saran Wrap was made with the PVC, but from looking at their website, it looks like they have removed the chlorine now: http://saranbrands.com/faq.asp#3

I donno if it's poison or not but it works. Take the tube of wrap out of the cardboard box and cut off an inch of the roll with a bread knife. It's hard to do but it works really well when it's that wide. I band saw would do a better job probably. :jester"
