Ideal light? Will this alone be ok?
    #8055697 - 02/22/08 09:48 AM (15 years, 11 months ago)

Will this spectrum alone be enough, or should I add
some other light source?

Just search "LIGHT" and you will find your answers 1000 times fold.

I've used the search quite a lot recently. And still this question remains...

Stamets says that: "...more pinheads are initiated upon exposure to
blue and ultra-violet light with distinct peaks at 370, 440 and 460nm."

I have also read that you should use natural light fluorescent at 6500k.

Since this light source does not meet all of the requirements mentioned above,
I would like to know if shrooms would benefit from the lower wavelengths or not?

No. That's outdated information. Use natural daylight fluorescent with a color temperature of 6,500 Kelvin for best results.

So are the higher wavelengths completely useless?
Should I ditch my allready purchased fluorescent, or
add some natural daylight tube to go with it?

RR, you got me confused. In this thread

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7751446#7751446

it seems to me that you say that higher frequencies should be used.

And now you say that I should use lower??? What has been discovered in
last couple of months? Or did I misunderstood you reply in that thread??

I said use 6,500 Kelvin natural daylight fluorescent for best results. There is no contradiction. Mushroom cultivation was in its infancy 25 years ago. We've learned a lot since then.

Lamps with a color temperature of 6,500 Kelvin are NOT low frequency-they're considered 'blue' light.
