The shortcommings of cardboard
    #8055511 - 02/22/08 08:41 AM (15 years, 11 months ago)

So I have been trying to grow out some cyanescen mycelium this winter from some chips I raped from a wild patch in Seattle. I had the chips stuck between sheets of cardboard and over the past few months they have been spreading slowly, but steadily.

I had the mix in a rubbermaid tub which I aired out once every other day. I decided it would be easier to just get mycobags with the filter patch then I could go out of town or whatever and not have to worry about giving them fresh air.

So I got the bags and loaded all the cardboard/chips into then. Basicly I think what happened is all the myc was suffocated. The filter patch didn't provide as much air exchange as I had expected, and the sheets of cardboard were all tight crammed together so the mycelium just stopped growing. Not only did it stop growing, I think alot of it died. Where there used to be healthy rizoms it is just a faint white splotch. Do you think the splotches will regenerate now that I have changed the setup to provide adaquate air exchange?

Cardboard is really just to get the mycelium started. You need to then move the mycelium to sawdust and woodchips.
