New to edibles

First let me say that i have very little experience with edibles. I have spent most of my time in the cultivation forum. I am getting more and more interested in edibles. A few questions. where should I start? where do I get my first strains from at a reasonable price? which is an easy one to start with?
Thanks

sporeworks is my recommendation, but they all should be good, if they weren't they wouldn't be here.
also im sure their are people who would give you free prints, or trade if you ask here or in the marketplace

Thank you Makaveli8x8. I would not dare ask for free prints. I feel it is a petty way to go at it. I will buy mine or trade for them when I am ready to pursue it further. As for now I am still in my research stage of this and want to shop around a while and eventually join in the discussions. Again, thank you and best wishes.

I just picked up a pack of fresh mushrooms called "mushroom medley" it's white button, portabello, Enokie, and oyster mushrooms all in one package. $5 at Extra Foods or Superstore in Canada. I cloned the Enokie and Oyster last night. Asian markets usually carry strange fresh mushrooms too like the King Oyster or Shitake. All cloning teks work on edibles. My Enokie went into grain and Oyster went into liquid cultures. Enokie is the domestic version of the wild velvet foot. same mushroom really but grown in the dark in high CO2 to make it small and pale. By the way Portabello and Criminy are the same too...just picked at different sizes and given different names...marketing. You could go to the grocery store buy one small button mushroom for 5 cents, clone it and be growing them for yourself in a few weeks. Enokie Shitake and Oysters grow on wood or BRF cakes and Portabello/Criminy and White button mushrooms grow on manure/compost. Store bought Enokie are a giant pain in the ass to get a tissue sample from. I split it and scrap off a bit no thicker than a thread and one millimeter long from the inside of the stem with the tip of a syringe needle. Steady hands and a magnifying glass help.

i am also looking to adventure into edibles and was wondering if anyone has a general idea or list of a sort of step-wise learning curve in terms of difficulty in success. am i correct in assuming i should start at oysters and master them first?

i cant remember the oriental names but I know that I can find hen of the woods (enoki i think???) and chicken of the woods (maitaki???) here in the late summer and fall. I have also found white oysters once. I plan on cloning asap. thanks for the ideas.

Pick what you like and go from there. Yes Oysters are easy, they grow on almost anything...even phone books. Hericulium or lions mane are wood lovers too. If you've grown manure loving shrooms just substitute portabello cultures and follow the same. Good luck

start with oysters or lions mane, then try shiitake which is my fav edible so far
i actually don't like oysters much, but it may have to do with the recipe
