Nice images Alan!
Have a go at this one,

I'm pretty sure the second image is either a colour variation or a subspecies of the first one!

The third one down looks more like Gymnopilus, maybe luteofolius, than Russula.  I agree with CC on the C. asprata.  I saw a lot of them in Kauai, beautiful mushrooms.:smile2:

Third one down is a Dermocybe, fourth is Tubaria, fifth is Russula.

Alan, I highly doubt that is a Dermocybe... It looks like G. luteofolius and it is growing out of wood.

That last one doesn't look like Russula either.

So, are they edible?  I can't find anything clear in my internet search, though I've found lots of photos that clearly are the same thing.  I'm going to a class with Desjardin next week, in the Sierra Foothills.  Woo hoo!

Huh?  Is what edible?  The Gymnopilus luteofolius?

Dennis' Sierra field camp is good I hear.  I have considered going, but I don't know if I will ever do the full class.  It might be overview for me at this point...  Not sure, I have heard mixed reviews from my friends, but they all really know what they are doing.
But I bet you will learn a lot.  Have fun!
