Yeah I was trying to find more on news channels about it at 10:30 but they were all just showing the lunar eclipse. Yeah the reason why a missile was fired at it was for a weapons test, to destroy the expensive spy equipment onboard the spy satellite and because it was carrying tons of fuel and 150 miles away from the earth's orbit. It will take another day or so to tell if the satellite was 100% destroyed from the missile.

While complaining about military budgets 'feels' right... Remember that the military, and warfare in general is what spurs on and funds most scientific advancements. At least historically that has been the case. Im not saying its right, and I hope humanity can move past it, but thats the way it is. Its not a coincidence that the greatest world military power at any time is also the worlds scientific power.

Because we forced them into submission with something so scientifically advanced it made their heads spin.
Ironic.
After that, they've basically been bound to regulations for no offensive force.

Making good robots does not count for most scientific. Look at who has the most powerful army and is always engaged in warfare, and look at who wins the most nobel prizes. Look at history, and see this trend over and over. Maybe we are changing this pattern... humanity's current culture is unlike anything else ever seen so maybe now people will fund science without the fear or want of war. Would be nice, but I dont know if its likely.

Nope, its a Swedish and Norwegian thing. Regardless, Japan is great at engineering and producing low price electronic gadgets. That is not scientific research. They do that too, and they are pretty good but they are not number one.

from navy.mil, "The objective was to rupture the fuel tank to dissipate the approximately 1,000 pounds of hydrazine, a hazardous fuel which could be harmful, before it entered into earth's atmosphere. Confirmation that the fuel tank has been fragmented should be available within 24 hours.
Due to the relatively low altitude of the satellite at the time of the engagement, debris will begin to re-enter the earth's atmosphere immediately. Nearly all of the debris will burn up on reentry within 24-48 hours and the remaining debris should re-enter within 40 days."

how does military might contribute to scientific advancement? unless your talking about scientific advancement of war products.
i'd bet if the world dedicated all their resources currently used for war for scientific advancement we'd be a lot further than we are now, guaranteed.

Right. and yet...
-------------------- 'Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they're wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It's all in how you carry it. That's what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you're letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain and leave the Shroomery.' ~ Jim Morrison

Either that or it would have been the most fucking awesome thing you've ever seen in your life.
It would suck when the tides stopped...and wind stopped...and our planet became a stagnant little sink-hole.
