Tell him you want to take nature photos or something
A lot of people will tell you to tell him your a mycologist and your studying mushrooms, but in Texas farmers arent dumb :/ so dont do that :\ unless you look way professional or your a girl.

i've done night day morning afternoon..
i'd say late afternoon before twilight if you are gonna be sneaking/trespassing..
dont fuck with flashlights.. especially if it's a high-traffic area..
i've ran from four wheelers and cars and all different shit.. but that was all during the day..
at night single LED lights work awesome... but best to hunt when there's a full moon.. (not tonight cuz of the fckin eclipse )
best day ever was a sunday afternoon me and my crew picked as much as we could hold.. it was intense..

that was the haul. good times. i miss foraging.. i wish i could put that on my resume.. we all got soooo good at it.

Since its your neighbor, you should go over there and introduce yourself, get to know him a little, tell him that you would like to take some photos on his land and please don't shoot.
Also a lot of people like to use cow manure for gardening, maybe he would let you collect his cow pies for that purpose.

inspiring....i can only dream of a catch that big
buuut i think a late afternoon trip would be best
i checked on google maps, and found that the guys house is over a hill, sooo we would only be able to be seen if someone was actually down in that area....and i can use the tree line for cover
i didnt think about the moon at all..didnt know it mattered
as always, thanks for the help

do what Alan said. It's your best bet. Might as well ask, and if the guy says no, it's up to you if you want to trespass.

I guess you can yell that as they are aiming.
Since its your neighbors though, you should go and hang out for a minute so you have run of the land.

That sounds like the best choice!!!!!! Or atleast the foundation for good story and a honest relation with the neighbors....and do let us know what you find............
