letting wbs sit out
    #8049040 - 02/20/08 08:22 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

hello all. two questions.

1) decided i would try to work with wbs so i soaked some overnight. but then i got busy and left the stuff in the strainer for more than a day. is there any problem with using this stuff or should i start over? what's the minimum amount of time you recommend letting the WBS soak for?

2) i was thinking of combining the wbs with some of the BRF that i have left. i have found hawke's old "recipe" for a brf & wbs substrate, but it calls for the addition of ground flax seed. i don't have any flax and i don't really want to buy any. can i proceed without the flax or should i just go straight wbs? i'm looking to increase colonization time over the 8+ weeks it seems to take my cakes to fully colonize.

this lunar eclipse is awesome.

thanks.

Sure you can make a brf wbs cake. It'll tale forever to colonize... and it'll be sticky/

WBS works best BECAUSE you can shake it!

Do NOT fill your jars above 75%, and keep a good layer of foil over 'em and you'll see what I mean.

Just simmer 'em until they look full of water, w/o splitting. THEN LET THEM DRIP DRY, load your jars... and you are good to go.

If the seeds haven't started to sprout yet, you can still use 'em.

Good luck

SHAKE THE FUCK OUT OF 'EM when you are  done cooking them, and they are cool enough to shake!

You're welcome.
