hey there. Dark purple/chocolate spore prints are important for psilocybe species. However there are many poisonous species with similar sporeprints. You may want to start with a good book, like Psilocybe Mushrooms of the World to get you better aquainted with psilocybes. In your part of California, there is a very small chance of finding psilocybes. Depending on how close to the coast you are, you may find psilocybe cyanescens or other similar species. Your best bet is probably panaeolus subbalteatus, which isn't a psilocybe at all, but still contains psilocybin. They are generally found in nice green yards, or horse manure piles/hay piles. They have a black spore print, and look like this:

But, this thread will probably get locked because there is a lot of information available here on the shroomery, so get out there.

You said yours had a purple sporeprint, and the ones I posted have black, so you didn't find panaeolus subbalteatus. And probably didn't find anything active. Good luck.

> is that the deciding factor??????

No, many different kinds of mushrooms have purple-brown spore prints.

> I guess my question is ,are there any poisonous mushies that leave a purple spore print

Yes, Hypholoma fasciculare is very toxic and has a purple spore print.

My guess is that you did find that toxic Hypholoma species, but its just a wild guess.

> The gills did not attach to the stem at the time I found them and the stems have dried to virtually nothing {unattached to cap}

There are no mushrooms with a purple spore print and free (unattached) gills.

What did you do to the mushrooms?

Those are mushrooms right?

Your supposed to take them neatly and place them on paper to print then lift them up a day lator, not print them in a car wreck

We can't really tell what your mushrooms are with just a sporeprint. Try getting pictures of the fresh mushrooms too, next time you are out. They could be psathyrellas, but that's a wild guess. There's a lot of info on this site, read up!!!
