Guys,
I ordered this tyvek from P.O like 2 weeks ago. It's a small one and said it wouldn't be in for a bit. SO i asked about the fedex envelopes(made from tyvek), they said they were free as long as you were fedexing. I said yeah, I work around the corner and we need em. Just walked out with like 40 large fedex tyveks. Sweet. One question though. Says made from 25% recycled content(Milk and water jugs in particular). Should I just use one sheet to cover the lid? this shit will withstand the 250 degrees for an hour? and will provide TOTAL contam barrier? Gonna do one large air hole for FAE, and 3-4 little guys for syringe holes. How do i find the syringe holes by the way? under the tyvek i mean? will they be visible? ahh whatever. gonna have some beers and get to work. L8R and thanks to all for the tips. Im new to rye.

Greetings Glow!
Exactly, what type of lid are you doing?
I do a lid for WBS ..... should work the same for your rye ....
Basically the lid has one larger 1/4" to 3/8" hole in center of metal lid ... hole is stuffed with polyfill for gas exchange and also you inoculate through the polyfill .... tyvek is placed between the metal lid and glass jar ( so you can shake the grains and they don't come into direct contact with the polyfill .... when you inoculate, the needle punches through the polyfill ....)
Is this the lid you are using?
Your recycled tyvek will be fine. I have forgotten the tyvek and have gone with just the polyfill and it has worked great.
Good luck, MAN

make 3\8 inch hole for gas exchange. then nail hole for syringe (close to side).... then crazy glue ur tyvek on top..... take ink pen and just push through from the bottom side a little bit so you can see the dot on the top side then circle the indention with pen hard to explain sorry.... don't poke through....
use two sheets

No need for glue or ink on the tyvek. the rim of the jar will hold the tyvek down then a piece of aluminum foil over the top of the jar will keep the tyvek from getting wet and letting contams through it. As for finding you holes for knocking up just shine a flashlight from the side of the jar.

Good advice Fack, but guys, I got no polyfill. I just have a small cluster of nail holes in center (rye grains won't contact tyvek), and smaller holes surrounding for syringe insertion. Do i NEED polyfill? thanks

LOL...you gonna eat your tots? hey do I NEED the polyfill or will the tyvek barr contamination. Especially since i don't have 1 big hole, but a cluster of smaller holes for FAE in the center. innoc holes are surrounding those. 2-3 innoc holes per jar. where do you get polyfill anyway? and where do you get the correct calcium for lowering PH? Oyster shell? but i need no presevatives! drugstore crushup wont work.
