sounds to me like it's bruising from drying out. Pics would be VERY helpful though

1. You should be more specific....vague language like "the chamber", and "the pointy things", will get no one anywhere. (Are you referring to a fruiting chamber, or an incubating chamber, or what?) In general it's beneficial for someone reading your post to know a few parameters. For instance...
- a. Fruiting Chamber Type (Double Tub, Mono-Tub, Poor Man's Pod ect.)
b. Conditions (Humidity, Temperature, light source/cycle) c. Strain (Not as important but sometimes may be helpful)
This will enable us to better help you, and as someone has suggested. Pictures would be nice.
2. If I get your question correctly, I think there could be a few things going on...
- a. Your cakes are dried out (As you had initially suspected.) This can cause bruising. Consider an overnight dunk and then roll in Vermiculite.
b. You have touched your cakes too much. c. The structures you are referring to are most likely not pins. Pins are not usually blue, they are usually Red-Dark Red, or brownish in color. It may be knotting. Mycelium knotting can occur when two Rhizomorphic fronts colide. (This happened with a cake that was not fully colonized on my first ever grow....If memory serves me correctly, I think it actually turned blue too because my cakes were dried out.)
Hope this helps and good luck!
