Torn between two jobs

Hey, I recently moved out to the Vaqncouver area, and I have been in job hunt mode ever since. I was supposed to be a chef, but the kitchen manager decided he wanted someone with experience (which is fully understandable) but instead of leaving me high and dry, they offered me a position working as a bartender. I like it and all, but at first it was only 1 day a week @ $9/hour + tips.
Due to this lack of income (I have bills and debts to take care of) I had to look for another job. I got a job working as a parking host (extremely easy job, a little boring at times) @ $12/hour which is more than enough to get an apartment and pay all my bills (with a definite, reliable income)
Problem is, I just found out that they really like me at the bar, and want to give me full time hours. I am quite torn as I like the bar (though it is quite stressful at times) but I also like this new job. The problem is the bar is quite inconsistent on what I make night to night (but has potential to make more), and the job will cover all my expenses consistently. other
I am not necessarily looking for an answer, but some help in making up my mind would be appreciated as I have to quit one of them tonight, and I cant decide which one.
Any advice you can share on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Pick the one that you know you will be able to hold onto longer. Financial security is a must these days.

Take the parking job. They are always going to need you. Bars can be hectic.. Sometimes too hectic. To much drama, all-though really fun.
$12 and hour VS. $9 an hour. Com'on bro. Tell them to leave you on part-time at the bar. That's all i have for ya.
Good luck bro!

20 years ago I was pulling around $700/wk tending bar, that was at $2.13/hr + tips, make sure they can guarantee you 40 hours per week. bartending give you the chance to interact, you can make some good contacts which can pan out into some great jobs later on.

every job is what you make of it, ignore the drama, bust your ass and keep the customers happy, you get slamed on new years and the only thing that hould be running through your head is "I'm retiring off what I make tonight"

For sure man I agree, Mom's been a bartender for 20 years. I was basically raised in a bar. Always good money, some rough times but she always seemed to pull through. Especially on new years.

Seems like being a bar tender would be more beneficial. Having experience could potentially get you jobs at swankier bars in the long run. Maybe? It also just sounds like a much more enjoyable job.

Yeah, I would go for the the full time bar job. It might be your 'in' for the kitchen there eventually, or it could give you more opportunities to tend bar at other places, and there's almost always a demand for experienced bartenders.
If it was me, I would prefer a stressful job over a boring job, but it really depends on your personality and what you really enjoy.
Good luck with whichever job you end up choosing!

I have 26 years in the bar/rest biz, take the Bar job,you can make contacts for other jobs this way, much more lucrative and enjoyable, the rough parts will not last long. You can chat people up in a relaxed state that they would not be in when they are in any other environment.(work,home,etc...)And learn how to make a perfect martini, this can do wonders for you.

With $9/hour + tips, depending on how busy the bar is, you could easily be making more than the $12 an hour you'd be making at the other job. Plus interaction with people is good as well.

I'd go for the parking host job myself. The lack of stress is a big plus.

I figured that if I were working 4 nights a week @ $9/hour(x8 hours), that I would only need to pull in $46 a night in tips (thats incredibly easy) to make what I would be making at the parking job. Thats the same money for one less day a week. That sounds pretty groovy to me...
I talk to the scheduler tomorrow and find out if its possible to guarantee me at least four shifts a week. If yes, I take the bar job. If no I will stick with the parking job. As for tomorrow, now I have to work from 5am-1pm for parking, and 5:30pm-2:00am a the bar. Its going to be a long day tommorrow
Damn, I was hoping I would find out tonight so I didnt have to get up at four in the fucking morning tomorrow. I cant quit either one without knowing how many shifts I will get a week. Oh well, a least I am getting paid for all this

well as long as your hours don't overlap, why not do both.
3.5 hours of sleep is enough.

So the bar couldnt give me 4 shifts a week yet. I ended up keeping the parking job, working monday-thursday, and sunday. At the bar they are keeping me at one shift a week on saturday nights (busiest night at the bar, BIG tips that night) so I get the best of both worlds: A nice relaxing job during the week, and I get to keep the bar job, so that when more shifts open up I can take them.
Sweet! Let the apartment hunt begin!

Sounds like a plan man. Im glad you are happy with what you got. Both jobs sounded cool.
