Chances of Outdoor Cult

I have some spore solution, don't really need it. Also have access to a horse/cow farm. Planning on dumping the solution on some manure, and injecting some in to individual piles of manure. My question is should I go ahead and do it now (weather ranging from 30-50F) or do they have a better chance if I wait until it warms up a bit? Not really looking to do the whole colonize jars, then bury deal, just looking to spread some spores and see what happens. Any one have any thoughts? thanks.

So is it unanimous that this will not work? It seems to me that this is the way of nature, and that it is feasible.

I wouldn't eat any mushrooms that came off of fresh dung.
Field aged/leeched dung is relatively bacteria free.

im no expert but im pretty sure that in nature cubes grow naturally on dung and thats where they were first picked from and people discovered they were "magic"
many people have done outdoor cultivations an been successful, im just not sure if they straight up injected piles of manure though but hell if you got time an spores why not

Hell yeah, given the choice, I'd rather have natural mushies, as I know there is less chance of contams. Should I go ahead and do this now, or should I wait until it warms up a little bit? That is my question...

well i would say there is a better chance of more of the spores suviving when its warm, but spores will survive through a decent range of temps....
i would say if u do it now inject in the middle then cover over a good amount to insulate....PA now though??hasnt it been like 10degrees the past week

if you are using P cubensis spores then it probably wont work unless your in the southeast USA where there is a constant high humididty. also, you will rarely ever see cubes growing from fresh cow patties when hunting, they are more commonly on the dry, aged patties. I would wait at least another month or two before trying it though

I'm not talking about using fresh dung, talking about aged. But yeah, thanks for the month or two suggestion, methinks this is best as well.

Why does everyone have this stigma that mushrooms can not survive outdoors?

nobody has that "stigma". mushrooms have a better chance of surviving outdoors, that is where they naturally occur. however in nature they go through a different process of starting out, rather then being 'injected'

So you think I'd have better luck just broadcasting spores out over a larger area?

Someone recently posted on here that they injected apples with spore solution, fed them to horses, and then blamo, a little while later cubes were popping up on piles of horse dung.

well when p cubensis naturally occur in a cowfield, it starts off as a cow eating a shitload of grass that are covered with spores. the spores pass through each of the cows four stomachs and by the time they pass out of the cows ass the mycelium network has already begun forming. just go ahead and try injecting them, it may work it may not but there is only one way to find out
