Ok that's nice that everybody's getting in a big argument, but I'd like to take this opportunity to put the thread back on track by asking Moonshoe what his experiences have been with this method.
Successes? Anything to report?

I'm collecting signatures for a petition to add "personalism" to the dictionary.

Moonshoe, maybe you haven't been on for a while, or maybe you missed my question about your experience with this form of shamanism.

Thanks for asking, and "re-railing" this thread.
As for my experiences, I'd be glad to share some of my more recent.
Last night I intended to have a "Shinto" dream, my personal term for a shamanic dream. During the dream I was being pursued by three males in a park that I frequented as a child. As I approached the periphery of a forest I used to love to wander in ("the witching path"), I realized I was dreaming and became lucid.
Immediately I rose upwards into the air, arms spread. The shamanic transition to the lucid state as always completely transformed the nature of the dream, and it became hyper-vivid, hyper-real. I was suffused in the deep joy and liberation that always accompanies shamanic flight, a blissful experience that is a fusion of exhilaration and relaxation.
The small patch of forest I had been in immediately transformed into "the Perfect Forest" a Shinto/shamanic realm that is my own personal soul-home.
The Perfect Forest is either a manifestation of my own truest, innermost self represented as a gorgeous physical geography for me to explore, or it is the shamanic and ancient spiritual abide of the forest Kami, or both. Either way it is among the most wonderful realms I have ever entered and my shamanic practice can almost be reduced to simply "techniques for finding the Perfect Forest"
So, i was floating above the canopy of the trees, the warm summer sun warming my back (It is winter here in Canada, and cold, but not in the spirit realm) and I held out my hands and ran my fingers through the leaves as I drifted by for a timeless eternity.
Eventually I arose into "the waking dream" and went about my Day. However, the dream stayed with me all day and beyond , as Shamanic dreams always do, it filled me with a sense of peace and positivity that I can still access just by remembering it. This is the two fold essence of my practice. First I induce a Shamanic Dream though one way or another, and experience it for joy and pleasure. Then I bring it home with me and put it into my mental "medicine bundle" for later use and access. Each shamanic dream I bring back adds a little to my happiness and power. It is like a little piece of the spirit world to take with me through my day.
A few nights before that I induced another shamanic dream. I was gazing at a lovely tree whose branches were heavy with orange and red leaves. It stood against the shore of a quiet lake, in a very peaceful, silent area. I decided to meditate and turned around to find a place to rest my back.
To my amazement, behind me was a colossal and ancient forest Kami, A Gigantic tree spirit so wide it would have taken twenty men or more to wrap there arms around it. It rose perhaps a hundred feet into the Sky and was alive with ancient wisdom.
I placed my face against its bark and hugged the small part of it I could get my arms around. Immediately i felt a deep surge of relaxation, reassurance and healing energy flow out of it and into me. This was a spirit gift from this Kami, and it empowered my energetic body.
Then I heard the voice of an old grandmother or wise woman speaking In my ear. It spoke in the Dream language, but it can be roughly translated as : "the Kami are always around us if we know how to look... even now"
then it gave me some coded information on how to see them among the grass at my feet. Just then I noticed a small white mushroom at my feet. I mentally coaxed the mushroom just so, and it revealed itself to be a tiny forest Kodama, or Kami, a small walking mushroom like entity, a tiny spirit of the grass and soil. It began to move and i noticed Another , slightly larger Kodama appear out of the trunk of the tree.
Just then my Wife awoke me from my vision, but again, the deep joy and peace of the Perfect Forest stayed with me all that day and to the present.
I have a case full of notebooks full of such journeys, and Id be happy to share more.
In the waking dream, I contact the perfect forest by going on a trip out to the gorgeous and pristine Boreal forests and lakes of Canada outside my City. Then I hike deep into the woods and find a peaceful, sunny and secluded area. I meditate by breathing in the fresh pine air and listening to the voice of the trees as the wind blows through the forest. This immediately brings me to a place of joy and relaxation and opens my spiritual eyes.
Then i begin a free-form shamanic journey as I interact with the forest and its denizens. I listen to the birdsong and eat the resinous sap of the healing trees. I Climb in their branches and place my ear against the trunk to hear its heart beat. I meditate by the rivers and listen the babbeling of the River Kami. I burn my sacred green herb and watch the smoke coil into the clear heavens, taking with it my prayers of gratitude to Amaterasu, Kami of the Sun, who sustains even the Perfect Forest.
I seek all day in this way until i find The Gate. The gate is always different, yet always the same. Often it is a tree grown or bent in such a way as to form a perfect arch or door way, located in a harmonious or beautiful area.
Once I find such a place, I clap my hands to attract the attention of the Kami, Purify my heart and mind, and formulate an Oath of Shamanic Intent such as "I intend to enter the Perfect Forest tonight in my dreams and speak to the Kami of the Moss" or "I intend to heal my illness by bathing in the spiritual pool of wellness" and i pass through the arch. This is a symbolic act of transition and signals that i have entered fully into the spiritual aspect of the forest.
Now i let my intuition guide me, and usually i sit on the ground cross legged, close my eyes, empty my mind, breathe deeply, and allow the Kami to speak to me. They speak in an organic, enveloping language and not in "words", so the trick to hearing them is to quiet your own mind and remain open.
I remain in this state of communion until i find myself on my feet and walking home. The kami jolt my body in this way when the session is over, it is not a concious choice. One minuite i am in communion, the next I am on my feet. For this reason you need never wonder "how long should I do this?"
Just do it until you are not doing it anymore.
Then i bow and say farewell to the Kami, and pass back through the Arch into the physical forest (which of course the Kami still remain a part of) and head home. I bow when i leave the forest, and often i create a totem or statue out of rocks to mark a holy place or honor the Kami of the forest.
I actually just came back from this exact experience yesterday, and i still feel empowered and refreshed by it. The only unusual thing is that this time my wife accompanied me, but her love added a holy and joyous new dimension to my experience. This journey gave me the peace and refreshment needed to enter re-invigorated into my Academic and Career duties.
I'd love to share more, but I'm out of time.
Peace

Many internet forum terms vary from the original definition. Some of the most-commonly used "new" definitions have already made it into the dictionary, and some have not. Why make such a big deal about this? One might as well say "flaming" does not mean insulting someone on the internet, it means that something is on fire.
Well shit... all this time I thought there was an serial arsonist roaming around the Shroomery.

Ok, thanks Moonshoe. Seems like an innocent enough activity: your own special method of "recharging" or "centering" or whatever term you want to use for it. I know what you mean as far as lucid dream images being so vivid. I've had dreams where things looked more detailed and more real than they ever could in waking life.

sounds like your merging with earth-based energies.
cosmic energy is easier, dont need all the "kami calling" and bowing, just blow your mind man.

"sounds like your merging with earth-based energies.

Actually thats a very interesting point. I do try to merge with earth energies. However this i becoming harder for many people on earth, as the natural and untouched ecosystems become fewer and harder to access and many animal spirits disappear from this planet.
At the same time, our satellites, space probes and telescopes reach farther and farther into the heavens.
Certainly, I sometimes use my shamanic flight to explore the cosmos and the stars, flying from planet to planet or just soaring through the heavens.
I'm very interested in what the "cosmic energies" refer to for you and what techniques you use to access them.
