what are the look a likes to psilocybe caerulipes and P. ovoideocystidiati ? Are mushrooms from the Ohio river valley close to the river safe to eat ? I think I have seen these mushrooms a lot but never thought a shinny mushroom might be safe to eat

Well I guess there are a lot of them, depending on how close it needs to look alike before its called a lookalike.
> Are mushrooms from the Ohio river valley close to the river safe to eat ?
Some are safe, others are deadly poisonous.
> I think I have seen these mushrooms a lot but never thought a shinny mushroom might be safe to eat
Post some pictures. You are probably finding Psathyrella.

I will post some pictures as soon a spring comes I was asking about the flood plane of the Ohio river because that river drains about 1/4 of the U.S. and swallowing even one mouth full WILL make you sick

Then I would probably not eat ANYTHING that grows around there.
Mushrooms are also known to absorb and concentrate heavy metals.

thank you I will look farther inland from the river in creek beds etc It's not heavy metals I'm worried about it's water born diseases cites like Frankfort and st louse get there drinking water from that river things like heavy metals are not removed by water treatment I have had gerdia (from forgetting to wash my hands ) so many times that it just gives me sulfur burps any more BUT better safe than sick

Dude, try eating sulphur tufts, that'll give you the real sulphur burps.
What is a sulphur burp anyway?

I have never seen a "look a like" in the same habitat as ps. ovoideocystidiata. However, I have seen poisonous mushrooms in the same habitat. Just make sure you know what you are doing when you go hunting for them. I have eaten plenty of ovoids that were growing within 100 yards of the ohio river.

A lot of people think all mushrooms look the same. The issue of "look-a-likes" is subjective, thus, only you can say if something looks alike in your eyes.
A seasoned hunter can distinguish between two similar looking mushroom in an instant, while new or less discerning hunters may pick up every mushroom to check for bluing...

around here they would be growing around maple and sycamore trees close to creeks in or very near flood back washes of dead wood and forest floor debre there is a lot to these mushrooms the color of the cap can vary greatly rusty brown to light tan may have a light green tenting around the rim of the cap there is kind of bulls eye on the cap or there may not be a bulls eye If it doesn't have a bulls eye and it's alone leave it alone if it's in a cluster of ones with a bulls eye it may be check for the rest the cap can be conical to flat depending on age there is kind of rounded nipple on the cap the the gills that go all the way to the stem and are close together and dip a little below where the gills connect to the stem the gills look to be a kind dark purpleish brown or dark brown the spore print is purpleish brown on the older mushrooms stems are hollow the stem is never orange
so have I kind of got the idea of what I'm looking for ?
make note of where it's found and whats around tack photos of the cap, stem, gills and photos of the mushrooms before they are picked tack some spore prints tack photos of the spore prints have a ruler in all photos except the surroundings post the photos here and ask for an ID
IF it is eat some then try to clone it and start some outdoor clusters

Thats not true I swallowed water from the river numerous times on accident (and one time on purpose). But I collected blue foots next to the river once and I was fine, but I find most of my haul next to creeks, so in my experience, at least, that's probably your best bet to find them.

Thanks for the advice on where to find them I have gotten sick (gearda) from handling wet dock lines and not washing my hands after wards . Some advice from me would be to treat the Ohio river water as a biohazard .
