I was just thinking, in the distant future, when we begin to really take of into deep space, and visit other planetary systems. I begin to wonder how we'll generate and create maps of the universe, and in who's perspective. I can only think it would almost have to be 3d or holographic. I can only imagine such things becomming really confusing. Then again in such future, computing will be far beyond our mentality and could probably manifest such things on its own.

Well we already have some rough maps of the known universe. I have seen some really neat ones, though they were on science channel, or discovery, and i can seem to find a good 3d model of the known universe.
It really just looks like clusters and globuals in space, almost like some kind of giant lava lamp. And due to that structure, yea most likely maps, or at least acurate and to scale maps, will have to be 3d holographic map.

This page is on the Dark Matter scaffolding that is though to be holding or further accelerating our universe's expantion. Awesome site because to know where the darkmatter is, we have to know where all of the normal matter is in the universe.
