Different ways to dry fresh mushies?

Hey all, well ive just about finished my first grow. Out of 12 overall cakes, 9 of them made it into the casing and the first shrooms are starting to be done. Only problem is i don't have any desiccant (sp?) to dry them out and i'm broke until friday. Are there any alternative ways to dry out fresh shrooms? Would it be alright to just throw them into a bag until friday? any help is cool. Thanks!

pre-heat oven to it's lowest setting and keep the door open, lay shrooms on a baking sheet covered in 3 layers of foil, plug in a small house fan and set about 3 feet from oven door so it blows in and turn it on high. your oven sheet should be on the middle rack of the oven.

Now, is this method legit? or is it a shitty substitute lol. Am i better off just waiting until friday and buying some desiccant?

you could just lay them on table, maybe on a clean towel ad blow a fan over them.

I didn't have enough money for desiccant either. I took my room heater and put it about 2 feet in front of my mushrooms which were on a paper towel. I also put a thermometer next to the mushrooms to monitor temperature. I didn't let the temp get over 95 degrees F. I heard that this should have no noticeable effect on the potency. They dried out completely in just a day.

UUUMMMMMMM........... Wouldnt that blow out the pilot on a gas stove/oven? Assuming that you have a gas stove/oven anyway. If it was me I would put em in a big ziplock and wait till friday when you can get some desiccant. Just my opinion. Peace

I'm assuming his oven is electric. The warm air will be dry and will pull moisture out of the shrooms quicker.

It's how I've always dried banana chips and deer jerkey, so I would assume it would work for mushrooms.

put in front of a fan out of direct sunlight for a couple days, then move to desiccant chamber to finish. for large amounts, jack puts them in a laundry basket and sets a box fan on top.

there are all bad ideas except for haxjester.
put it in as dark of a place as possible and run a fan on 'em until cracker dry.. you only need desiccant for storage past that point..
or you can fridge them if you want to eat them soon, but i wouldn't put them in there past friday (and if you put them in the fridge, make sure you cover them)

What ever happened to using a dehydrator? Oh wait, the heat kills potency, right?

What kind of disiccant would you spray on them? Is that only if your storing for a considerably long time?

you spray desiccant?
I believe desiccants used for mycology are epsom salts which are to draw moisture out of the mushrooms....

usually seperate.
desiccant in a bowl or something wire mesh sitting over the bowl mushrooms go on that
thats me though. people put them in tea bags or w.e and toss them into jars to keep their mushrooms shelf life up.

Just like flavoraid said as illustrated in the picture. Damprid, and DryRite are common dessicants you can find at home depot, or lowes. Two important things though, fan dry them first, or they will rot if put straight into the desiccant chamber. And do not let the mushies touch the desiccant. It tastes HORRIBLE! For storage Jack just bags them, puts the bag into a mason jar, and puts in the freezer. If you're going to put them in the fridge and eat them fresh later, put them in a brown lunch bag.

Yes, this does work and works well as long as you don't cook them. Keep your oven around 140-200 degrees F(your lowest setting) and keep them on the top rack away from the heating element(or flame if gas). They will dry in a couple of hours if done properly. Just be careful and watch them and you will be fine. If you see them starting to turn extremely blue or black, turn down the heat and let them cool off-it's too hot. I dry mine like this when my radiator heater is turned off and I don't have any problems getting them cracker dry in less than 4 hours. That's how I do it, some do it differently.
