I just deleted my other thread as this is now the topic I need to focus on.
I am having a hell of a time getting much success with corn syrup or honey thus far. karo is growing very slow and honey isn't doing anything. So i want to try monstermitch's tek

The syringe filters I did find on a few sites. Seems that unless they are bought in bulk, they're quite pricey. Is it ok if these get LC solution on them from shaking and stuff, or do they need to stay out of contact like the polyfil does?
The weird alternate FAE setup I was considering was sort of inspired by somoenes thread who used tubes sticking outa their LC lids with polyfill in the ends. This is probably overkill and excess trouble I know, but just tell me if there's any reason it would not be functional and effective:
PARTS jar lid, brass male-male NPT ball valve, 2 brass NPT locknuts (http://tinyurl.com/26r7wh), brass female-female NPT coupling, silicone sealant, polyfil
ASSEMBLY >Make a hole in the lid that the threads of the ball valves will fit in well. >Screw 1st NPT locknut onto the male threads as far as it can go, then work that end into the hole you cut so that the locknut comes up flush with the upside of the lid. Add some silicone between the 2. >Secure it from the underside of the lid with the 2nd locknut, also with silicone (basically clamping the lid). >Jam polyfil tight into the exposed female end of this coupling, supporting it inside from the other end with a pencil or something so it stays in a cohesive wad. >Screw female-female coupling onto the ball valve's male threads sticking up.
OPERATION & USEFULLNESS When you want your jars to get gas exchange, open the ball valve. when you are going to be tilting the jar for drawing out LC, or just somehow moving them around, shaking them, etc. close the ball valve so your filter is safely separated from the liquid. with the female-female coupling, there would be plenty of room between the actual valve parts and the filter, that any moisture that haphazardly transferred from operating the valve would stay a safe distance from the polyfil, preventing contams from creeping in.
What do you guys think? I know it sounds like a big hassle, but if there is no scientific problem with this setup,(used with an injection port or silicone blob) it'd be really nice for me, because a friend of mine is interested in growing as well, and I can foresee it being handy if we could move our LCs between us without having to worry about contams and liquid seeping out in transit and stuff. It'd also be quite a bit cheaper (total... not per unit) than the syringe filters.
