The way i understand it, the two common types of mescaline containing plant are Lophophora williamsii - Peyote and Trichocereus pachanoi - San Pedro. Obtaining the succulent will not be a problem, however: which plant would one suggest for a first time user? understandably, upon obtaining the cacti, it may not be the correct weight, but i've found a SP seller where they come as 20cm plants. aside from a stalwart ornamental, how fast do these things grow?
and if growing from seed, any ideas how long either plant would take to mature to harvesting size?

if you grow from seed you are looking at roughly 4-6 years before it has matured. If its Peyote it will take even longer, between 10-15 years.

yeah, i had a guess around 3-5 for pedro. i'm happy with that, the seed growth was just more of a hobby interest, however obtaining a 20cm cutting as well should significantly decrease that growth time (or is 20cm pretty close already?)
edit: supposedly grafting peyote to pedro cuts the growth time in half, but does this negatively effect the alkaloids at all/complicate preparation?

20cm is just under 7 inches. I think that is perfect for 1 dose. Its not that big for a growing but it will grow fine, just take longer. and you will probably have to root it (unless you are getting them in pots)
I dont know about grafting, Im new to cactus cultivation myself. Just passing along some tips ive learned here.
I rooted my 10 inch pedro less than a week ago and im waiting for it to root.
