PatternOfChaos said: Knoa6, personally I would work the soil outside giving it some good drainage and some ferts and then broadcast sow some outside. You could still do the indoor bunch, and I've had some success transplanting poppies (but it's rather time consuming and a delicate process), but I bet they'll do nicely outside. Best thing about poppies is they have a lot of seeds.
Thanks-good reply! Could you elaborate on soil prep and additives?

Hey you know I haven't gotten too picky about fertilizers yet. On the indoor poppies I've done usually most of it is Black Gold potting soil with some perlite or pumice + horticultural sand. I'm new to ferts and I arbitrarily added some blood meal to the mix on the last transplant. Outdoors I used some potting soil that was inside and a little moldy and some perlite and added it to the soil. If I were to do it again I think Black Gold potting soil + perlite or pumice and compost or some sort of fertilizer.

my outdoor raised bed for poppies and herbs is much like that with worm castings, compost, perlite and course sand. I hope my fennels, stevias, scullcaps, verbanes, and mints do ok with the poppies.

i plan in starting mine indoors too in the pots that disintegrate when you put them in soil, this way when it comes time for my wife to put them in her "flower garden" they are already started and healthy.

At what temp. do you plan to start the indoor grow? Normal room temperature? Under HPS?

i am starting them right now in my basement about 50 deg F , i did the same last year and 99% or what i planted popped up in a few days . they will be under a 400 watt hps with a fan slightly blowing on them until it gets nice enough to put them outside
hope that helps
