Lower back pain while sleeping

Not everyday, but most days, I wake up earlier than I should, and cannot fall back to sleep because of aching pains in my lower back. Mind you, these pains were not there when I fell asleep, so I'm thinking maybe either it's me sleeping weird, or my bed sucks. Sometimes the pain is in the middle of my back, and it feels like I need to crack my back or something. Not severe pain or anything, just annoying aches. Anyone else experience this/have any solutions?

I was thinking it's the bed as well. At home, I sleep great and wake up with minimal if any back pain. Here at school, my apartment came furnished (mattress and bedframe already here) and apparently the tenant before me was about 350 lbs, so this mother fucker has to be a worn old mattress; weak springs or something. Same with the mattress at my girl's apartment.

Definitely sounds like you're in need of a new matress

I feel my back is pretty strong as I played football during high school (now a junior in college), which actually may have added to the back pain I'm experiencing now. Although I have not lifted seriously in over 2 years.
I'm hoping it's just the mattress, and that I don't have a fucked up back. Would sleeping on the floor possibly work? The couch maybe?

if youve stopped training the back muscles have probably gone soft again putting more strain on your spine
sometimes kidney or liver probs can mask lower back pain too but its usually to the left or right of the spine
350lbs has the mattress got a depression in it? id have thought people that big fuck everything they lay and sit on,even car suspensions

Yeah, it sounds like your mattress. I would get a new one. I bet that fat guy soaked a lot of sweat into that thing too. Ugh.
Until then you might try putting a pillow or cushion under the mattress for support under where your lower back would be.

Ya man, I wish I could afford a Tempurpedic. Those things are amazing.
I can't see any depressions in the mattress, but that doesn't mean the springs aren't fucked.

This is a problem i have had for a while. In my case it is due to the fact my neck gets all out of whack and it causes strain on the muscles in my lower back... I just go to the Chiropractor about once ever 3 months for a quick 30 minute session and i am all good

Good call on the generics, dude! $421 for a 7" memory foam mattress is pretty damn good.
How thick are yalls memory foam mattresses? Is 7" good enough or is that a waste?

Well, like anyone here I only have a solution that will hurt your wallet instead of your back.
You shouldn't use someone elses mattress, especially not from someone much heavier than you are. Mattresses are like good shoes, over time they form to the shape and pressures of the user.
Tempurpedic is the best there is, but I too won't blow up to $3.000 on a mattress. Generic ones are the solution. The really expensive brand stuff gives all sorts of specifications, which you than can use to see if a generic one is a true match in properties.
Its a block of composite foam. No way is that worth way over a thousand dollars.
Since you're in the market for a mattress, make sure to buy one that matches your weight and sleeping habits (more on your back or more on your side for instance). The expensive brands have FAQs for that, use those but don't do business with them
Get synthetic foam stuff, never any natural fibers etc because they are a haven for mites, mold and bacteria that can cause allergy and less than restful sleep.
If you have a partner its best to take two one-person mattresses side by side, the one thats best for you and the one thats best for your partner. There are overlay mattresses you can put on them so there isn't a crevice between them.
As you can tell, I'm in the market for a mattress as well, I'm thinking of having a custom one made by a local shop, they can match the properties of the really expensive stuff, but at not even half the price.
