Spores/Outside...

First and foremost, I'm new to growing mushrooms. I read the FAQ on outdoor growing and wondered if you could use spores instead of the mushrooms themselves, mixed with the shit/straw/etc. to spawn a bunch of those babies.. I live in Pennsylvania, so the climate is just perfect in late spring thru early fall.. I know a couple of people who can possibly get mushrooms for me, but they are MILES away.. and at the moment, I have no car. I'll definitely work on getting them.. I have a few months.. but this question is just in case.

absolutely you can, it's ideal though to create spawn for outdoor patches as it is more reliable and much quicker to fruit
however, for hundreds of millions of years spores have done fine outside on their own, thats how mushrooms reproduce and spread

The sun will most likely kill the spores before they actually start to germinate and construct hyphae. Make spawn jars for your outdoor patch and your guaranteed success.

I don't think spreading spores on an outdoor patch is the way you want to go. Seeing as you have all this time until you can even make the outdoor bed for them you should start some jars or look up how to use cardboard to generate spawn. It'll give the mycelium a head start and it will hit the ground running and you'll see fruits much quicker and more assuredly.

You guys do know that mushrooms naturally grow outside right?
Like I said, your chances of success are much higher using spawn, however spores will work to, but make sure you use a lot because chances are many of them will fail, thats why mushrooms produce millions of spores, mother nature is playing the odds

I heard a story on here awhile back about a guy collecting his spore prints and placing them in with his horses drinking water....
I dont know if there is any truth in it, but then again Ive also read stories about new growers getting a print from the FSR's and feeding it to a cow...
who knows, If I had a horse or a cow I could tell you but till then....if ever.

Yes it is true HybridprX. Farmers feed spores to there livestock, the livestock, the livestock poop it out with spores in tact and since the poop is warm it starts to germinate and fruit.
