Wrote myself into a hole

I'm writing a short story for a creative writing class, and basically the main character cooked up a crazy nootropic (smart drug) that made him realize the best thing to do for humanity is to blow up the world, ending all pain and suffering. He is captured by the police, and I want them to explain to him why he shouldn't do this.
Why shouldn't he blow up the world? I can't think of a good reason, unless there is life on other planets.

First of all, you should have the police say a bunch of stupid shit...
then have some psychoanalysist come in and talk to him about why he shouldn't do it. There are plenty of reasons, just not any that would hold up in a debate. "people believe their lives have purpose and meaning, and just the fact that they have those beliefs makes it true" he could say something like that. Of course, anybody here would probably scoff at that argument

For one, not all of us are suffering. Another reason would be for him to take care of his own problems, and let the rest of us deal with ours. No one has the right to impose their ideals on other people.

pain and suffering is relative to the culture and person.
and it can be overcome -- he should have no say in what other people do in their lives, he is worse than any politician. If someone is suffering so much that death would be easier than life, then they have the option to kill themselves.
He doesn't sound smart, just slightly insane megalomaniac

If someone kills his or herself, other people feel pain for them.
I just want to get this story fucking over with so I can do other things.

I think it ends up that the drug never made him smarter at all, just insane. But what really is intelligence?...
The End
Actually, does anyone have a good quote about the fine line between intelligence and insanity?
