Smoking Inside

I want to smoke in my apartment and not tip my neighbors off, so I cut a hole in the bottom of a milk carton so I could place it above the hole to the sink and have something to blow into. The other side of the sink is plugged.
There are 2 other sinks in other places of this subdivided house, when I turn on the faucet to suck down the smoke, will there be any backflow in the system that will cause smoke to reach my neighbors?

you could try taking a paper towel roll, the cardboard ones
put a paper towel over 1 end of the tube, then stuff those laundry freshner sheets, the ones that have a super strong, but good smell
put 1 or 2 of those into the tube, and blow smoke into that...it works pretty well
or just crack a window

it wont work, sinks have a U shaped "trap" in them.
like this
Quote:
this is for 2 reasons
1) if you drop you wedding ring down the drain, you can still get it back
2) to prevent sewer gas from coming back into your appartment,
#2 will also keep smoke from going down the drain from your house into the sewer as well.
good effort, but it aint going to work .
just get yourself some incense, and a blow tube (i'm assuming your smoking weed)
a blow tube is just a hollow cardboard cylinder from an empty paper towel or toilet paper roll. fill that with dryer sheets, and blow through it.
dont ask my why, but it will neutralize the smell.
enjoy!

Use a filter tube or if you have a fireplace blow smoke in there. I smoke all the time inside and you can't smell it from outside. No complaints from neighbors yet in 2.5 years.

CN, I think what you just told me reassures me a lot. I can force the smoke down by blowing down on the top of the carton and the u-bend on my neighbor's sinks will prevent backflow on their end.

2 out of my 3 neighbors would be cool with it. I'm not sure if any of them would be cool if smoke reached their apartment. Where I live however, they might just suspect it was wafting over from some other neighbor.

Yea, that works pretty well. I used to call it a spoof.

Actually, the "spoof" is where I got this idea from. "Hey, the sink is a pipe-like structure too." Spoofs don't work well for the quality of bud I have. The smell is epic.

wait.. you want to blow smoke down the sink drain? weird.
assuming the smoke is blown forcefully enough to get through the J trap.. then no it would not enter your neighbors.. due to the J trap in their drains as well. That's mainly what they are there for.... to prevent the smell of jenkem from the sewer from seeping out of your drains 24/7.
However I gotta say that's the weirdest idea I've ever heard for eliminating smoke smell.

I hope I've started a covert smoking revolution. There's absolutely zero smell in my apartment.
Anyone, I assume you mean hold it in as long as possible. I'll try to do that too, but it only gets rid of maybe 90% of the smell after 20 seconds or so. It's so hard to tell time when you're smoking.
