hello , all this is a private properties where the last of the oaks forest still prevail, due ,ironic his private owner that still maintain the oaks forest, a pine forest exist below this one, but many individual where cut , i will try to change that, the oaks also come in contact in some part of the mountains where ecotone with another special Forest the so call cloud Forest or jungle forest , the last from Nicaragua , if pines are scarce and oaks, cloud forest are even more, this is the land of orchids mostly ephiphitic or that grow on tree, are some are terricolal but with this high humidity they can survive in the trees, the cloud forest are more difference that in Mexico where is call mesophytic forest, in Mexico many trees or species are From north areas and few from tropical, here almost all individual are more tropical and from the south hemisphere a few species of oaks are the only connection with the norther hemisphere, as different as the truly oaks forest where all individual have a more north hemisphere connection and of course pine forest and mixed forest of pine and oaks, so this is paradise for me , Nicaragua is one of the last country to emerge continentally speaking is the chain that connect the North hemispheres with the south hemispheres so plant tend to migrate from both sides north and south and meet in Nicaragua, many species of the north only get here and no more south and many species of the south only get here and no more north beautiful isn't , so this mean lot of biodiversity on plant ,animal, trees, orchids, butterfly, you name it , snakes iam starting to love snakes but so far very difficult to take pictures are real fast. and of course the mycodiversity is great , this is the dry season but this mountains receive rains all year from time to time, OK enough introduction let hit the road .... when i enter the property i can notice all the tree inside and even none outside i found this panus critinus in the road in a old log

I really like that white polypore with the central stipe.
Also, that neon pink stuff is a crust fungi. Up until recently I ignored most crust fungi, lichen, and mycomycetes (slime moulds), but Tom Bruns i really interested in the crust fungi. If you see that pink crust fungi again, could you scrape scrape a piece off the wood and save it? Tom would probably be interested in looking at it.
Here is another very colourful crust fungi: http://www.mushroomobserver.org/6235
