I've heard it leaches, so is this hypothetically a concern with regard to the many FC's that use PVC (#3 recycle label)? Mushies are said to be (by a friend who is in a environmental impact studies program) one of the worst foods for enveloping poisonous contaminants from an environment.
Anyone know anything about this?

This is also why mushrooms are so great. They can turn poison into rich, healthy soil. If your friend is in an environmental impact program he should have also told you that mycelium is one of the earth's best friends when it comes to toxic clean up. Mycelium can literally transform a mound of waste into rich and fertile soil. Read "Mycelium Running" by Paul Stamets
That being said, I highly doubt there are any dangers with using PVC as any toxins absorbed by the mushrooms would be minimal and insignificant.

He also said it works for nuclear decontamination, something I found a little surprising. But thanks for the input.
