Dude I have access to fresh manure too but there's a reason I'm not using it in Canada at this time of year either. Just be patient.

Horse poo needs to be aged to work properly. You could let your fresh poo sit outside so it gets rinsed and dried a few times once it warms up. For now stick with the coir.

I hesitate storing it with newspaper. I processed some nice frozen poo last month...indoors...actually in the garage but its like a fresh cut hay smell...not poopy like. If you want to use it soon....Just put the poop in a tub, and dump hot hot water on it, let sit 24hrs...this is leaching. Then you can pasteurize it. I use a strainer, collect the leached poo outta the leach water, squeeze moisture out, put in a pillow case or dump back in leach tub...add water 170F til it floats, I use a turkey thermometer--$2. Cover and let sit at least an hour. Squeeze out, cool and spawn, or wrap in trash bags and freeze it for later use. If you freeze for later use...before use-after thawing I generally let it sit at room temp and breath for a week before spawning...to ensure a healthy population of good bacteria. GOOD LUCK!

that's an interesting frozen poo tech. Is their any diminished results over normally dried poo?

I have used over 100lbs of prepaste frozen poo and I cant say I have noticed a big difference, the fruit size of larger strains seems to be a bit smaller when not spawning it fresh...but that could be from several factors...hard to tell...maybe that the freezing busts the vegetation cells...like frozen celery gets...thus creating a lil less air in the substrate...dunno...good q though..wondered myself lol

Hello,
I'm slightly confused - so if I have horse manure that I collected from a pasture that is frozen (naturally due to snow/ice/low temperatures) do I first need to put it in the leaching container, then pasteurize? If so what are the best/exact process/temperatures?
Is it possible to simply pasteurize the frozen poo without the leaching process?
How long should the pasteurizing take on the frozen poo? What about leaching?
Thanks - any other advice on utilizing poo/manure would be greatly appreciated, or links to tek's. I'm using 1/2pint and 1 pint jars with wild bird seed inoculated/pressure cooked/boiled the birdseed inside the jars after letting it sit 24hrs in water (sifting out the waste), then plan on using poo as the substrate after crumbling the birdseed/mycelium colonized jars.

You don't want to leach or dry horse manure. It needs to age in the sun to get the ammonia out. You'll have to wait until next summer and then get enough to last through the winter. In the meantime, straw should be available. RR
