Inside of stems a blue color, contam?

I am growing some shrooms for the first time (B+), and I picked my first couple today from the same cake. I am not sure whether this is just the nature of the mushroom, or contamination, but the inside of the stems is a blue color. The shrooms look pretty healthy from the outside. Anyone know what the deal is?

It's bruising from the tearing involved. Out of curiosity, why are you tearing the stems up to look inside?

I just saw blue at the place it broke off. I thought id cut it to see if it was blue further up the stem as well, and it was.

It wasn't blue all the way up until you cut it.

yeah i believe that when the flesh is exposed to oxygen the psilocybin and psilocin oxidize and turn it blue. so the more you cut the more the active chems oxidize

Yes, it is thought that the active chemical psilocin turns blue when it oxidizes. Blue in this case means they are potent.

isn't it better though for it to oxidize in your system, rather than when you cut it?

Yup. Bluing is a sign of degeneration, or potency loss. Though, some bluing is often unavoidable.

Documentation? What does it mean when a bolete bruises? RR

I posted that hastily.
As I have clearly detailed in the past, the bluing seen on psilocin/psilocybin containing mushrooms is generally attributed to the oxidization of psilocin, though this belief has not been substantiated. There is, none the less, good reason to believe this may be the case, as psilocin is far less stable compared to psilocybin, and when the flesh of an active mushroom (psilocin/psilocybin containing) is damaged, a bluing reaction is observed. Thus, there is something in active mushrooms that causes the bluing.
The bluing reaction observed in boletes is a completely separate chemical reaction. Furthermore, this staining/bruising fades to orange/brown, unlike the colour reaction seen in active mushrooms, which of course, remains blue.
So anyway, it is speculative, but not something I would dismiss altogether, due to lack of evidence. No one has really TRIED to figure it out. I imagine that when someone finally does the necessary work, that the reaction may be validated.
That's the long explanation.
