Ultra light laptop (not about macbook air)

Since i've gotten to higher education, i have realized that my current laptop is very heavy. It wasn't heavy until i had to carry it to 2-3 classes everyday.
Other downsides is that it has no internal wireless, the fan-noise is akin to a small jet engine, and i can't play a game made after 1997. None of this stuff used to bother me because it was free.
Now i'm thinking of an ultra portable laptop. Something light and small. That is fine for taking note, surfing the web, ect. Sort of a dedicated schooling machine.
Which brings me to this laptop: http://www.directron.com/blackeeepc4g.html
Has anyone had any experience with an EEE PC?
On that note, has anyone had any experience with any ultra portable laptops?

you can get ultra portable laptops but most problems you have with laptops are going to happen no matter what
i had a laptopp (Dell) and after about a year, i realized it was a waste of money
unless you really need a computer on the go
buut i would look into macs lol, iv found mac makes some pretty decent books......and dell has a new model thats really light, small, and from my experience it works pretty well
just dont expect to do a whole lot on a book as you already know

that will work fine for web browsing and taking notes, but don't expect to be able to play any of the newer games on it or anything like that, as they don't hold up well to serious computing. Great value though. I've also used the OLPC XO-1, don't get that one.

Ya, the only reason i mentioned games for my current laptop is that if it is heavy and loud, it better play games.
I don't want to play anything more complex than civ II on this little laptop. In my life right now i just need something that is quick, light and workable on the go. Notes and internet are the only two things i've used my big bulky laptop since i got it a year ago or so.
Anyway, i've kinda settled on getting one, so i'll let y'all guys know how it goes.

Heh.
I have this Alienware desktop replacement.
It must weigh 10 pounds, and the charging thingamajig is the same weight.
If I tried to carry it around I would get a hernia.

that 4 gig HD is going to get annoying quickly
And I guess that attractive price is because they have no OS license included, you're getting a linux flavor there (if that matters)
damn, a 7" screen? That's tiny..
There are a lot of notebooks out now that are light enough to carry around and have better specs, go see them at a store or something in person, get a feel for prices, check the circular on the weekend - you can catch a great deal sometimes

Flash hard drive though.
I definitely want a flash hard drive in my next laptop.

Dell has some laptops that are advertised as weighing "just under 4 pounds". You'll pay for them though.
Out of curiosity, is taking notes via laptop the norm nowadays? I couldn't imagine several hundred people clicking away on a laptop during a lecture, that would be incredibly annoying.

Not in my experience. There are always a few people who took notes on their laptop, but they are in the minority for sure.

Ya, in my undergrad, i used to take notes by hand and there were few people taking notes on the computer.
But, here in my law school, about 75% (or more) take their notes on the computer. The clicking of keyboards is so light that you only hear the few people around you and its not distracting at all.

Ya, the 4 gig hd is a bitch. But its equiped with a SDHC flash drive. So for like 30-40 dollars i can add 8 gigs of space real easy. But frankly, if i listen to music its all on my ipod (which will have better sound anyway) and i don't watch movies on the go. And with no games, there is no real need for great hd space.
The 7" screen is also a big bitch. I don't know how i'm going to feel about that. We'll see.
Sure there are other light laptops out there, but frankly they offer a lot of stuff i never use on a laptop. Also they are 1000-1500 more than this system. I did consider several of them though.
