Bonnaroo Veterans...help

Ok here is the deal. My best friend is traveling to The Roo along with his dad and dads friends. Flying to Nashville, rent a nice RV...and go to the festival. They have VIP tickets which has them camping within 5 minutes of every stage, shower access, and backstage passes to an act of their choice.
I am still on the fence about going and cant make any decisions until I get my internship finalized. But if I buy a regular camping ticket, would I still be able to camp with them?
I would imagine that this VIP area is strict as far as wanderers going in and out..but is there a way I can legitimately stay with them but not enjoy the other VIP perks?

you will have to have a vip wristband to get into the vip areas. its kind of a bitch, but if you go in with a normal ticket, you will most likely be camped far from them.
now, beating bonnaroo security is not all *that* hard, im sure if you are the sneaky type you can make it into the vip area, but getting in and out on a regular basis will be a difficulty for you. you definately wont be able to get backstage with them.
one side note, i dont know if you have been before, but i have been there every year since the 3rd roo.
its a fun time, but the heat and the weather is a bitch, to top that off, people rob the shit out of the plain old campsites. and you might be camped over a miles walk from the stages....
as a "veteran" i swore to myself that if i ever went again (its not nearly as fun as it used to be) i would go vip. because i think thats the only way i would enjoy myself.

Bonnaroo has changed.
I'm by no means a veteran, but by looking at the past lineups and hearing peoples stories about the past, it seems like it has definetly taken a wrong turn.

This is a once in a lifetime chance.
I have admired the festival in the past, but have vowed never to go unless I go the right way. Which means fly>rent big RV>bed to sleep in inside
my friends dad is paying for everything, i just need to get a ticket if i end up deciding to go.

i understand Bonnaroo is on the decline. but like i said i always admired the festival in the past, and would never go unless done right.
anyother input from former attendees? if i have a regular 4 day pass, is there any way i can camp with my friends in VIP?
