My cakes are dried out...
    #8038221 - 02/18/08 02:19 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

...is there a way to save them? The temperature went up unexpectantly, and there was much lost water from the substrate. The mycilium wasn't even able to fully cover the cakes. I am planning to transfer them to rye berries, but I wonder if it's too late now...

someone had a tek for drying mycelum out on purpose to store them.
he just added water with a syringe to get them going again...
should be OK unless you had a "thermal death"

Well like I said, the temp went up pretty high near the cakes (90 to 95, maybe even a hundred but maybe not) and I imagine the water evaporated.

water can evaporate at all temperatures. That's why water disappears from a glass you leave out overnight Under 100 C, water only evaporates on the surfaces exposed to open air. Over 100, water evaporates all throughout the jar.
