pinning of substrate pre casing

ok so i got a bulk grow on hpoo and the substrate has quite a lot of very tiny 1mm white dots poking here and there, not like what i get on rye casings after obvious knotting. would it be sensible to just let it go to fruiting conditions or case it and re incubate for casing to colonize? will mycelium revert to colonizing after hyphal stage if forced to?

if you case it with pins it is called "late casing". i do it all the time, it works very well. just apply a casing layer on top of the pins and make sure its properly saturated. in a few days the pins will pop through and use the casing layer covering its lower stem as a water reservoir.
Also let the pins develop to the point were you can see the cap coloration beginning to appear before applying the late casing. This gives nearly no chance of any pin damage when applying casing (which is a rare case all together).

ok sounds fair to me.
say i case it and put it back into incubation temps will it abort the flush and colonize the casing? i think it would be best to make sure there is a good casing for future flushes is this a good idea?

if you already have knots and you put a casing layer on top it will grow fruits and fruit. you can try putting the casing layer on top and putting it in the fridge overnight to stall the grow. then, take it out and eliminate all FAE/light from making its way to your substrate. It is possible that the substrate will colonize the casing layer properly. Worst case is that when you come back to check up on it a few days later, you see fruits. which isn't a bad case at all.

however, i would just put on a casing layer and through it into fruiting conditions. From this point you can only live and learn . im pretty sure if you have many knots at this point you will get a good amount of fruits. when the first flush is done with, just dunk and re-apply a good casing layer and from there your second flush will adapt to the new casing layer.

I always case and place, there is no need to re-incubate the casing.
Your first set of pins will come from below the casing layer, and your second will come from both below and the top casing layer where hyphal knots formed.
Try a case and place and you will likely get larger second flushes then first, and really healthy third flushes as well.
