Hey there
I found these growing in a grassy field, in some cow dung.
I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I think they may be a species of Panaeolus, maybe papilionnaceus or semiovatus. I know you get papilionaceus in South Africa, but not sure about the other.
The Cap was soft, and whiteish, not slimy (was hot out) I can't rememeber if there was a petticoat (annulus)or not, and i can't really see from the pics. I have since dried them, and did not do a spore print(doh) [image]http://www.shroomery.org/forums/files/08-008/334219414-Unknown.jpg][/image]

That's right, you have Panaeolus semiovatus var. phalaenarum there. Formerly known as Panaeolus antillarum. Say, am I seeing things, or is that a cube in the fourth image in the lower right?

Cubes grow in your area, the mushroom in question is not identifyable.

Cool thanks for the help though. I am still not sure if I will eat the large ones. You wouldn't happen to know how potent Panaeolus semiovatus are. I wouldn't want to over do it.

for those you found are not potent and not active ..
might even give your tummy an ache altho I think they are edible but I wouldn't wanna eat them ... if im not mistaken didn't the strain of p. cubensis 'African Transkei' originate from africa Also ...MJ once said Psilocybe natalensis grow in africa on a college campus in Natal ..they look like cubes but without a ring

Okie dokie, will throw them out then. I am not sure about the Cubes in South Africa, but mushroom season is around the corner, so I will be looking as often as possible. for tasty gourmet ones and of course the magic variety. We get a lot of Amanita's but I personally don't like the high.
