Just read a few conflicting reports and would like to clear up the truth, would you say directly misting a casing BEFORE primordia formation is good or bad?

I mist mine all the way up untill I harvest=direct misting too, but I mist up into the air and allow for the mist to fall onto the casing layer. This way it doesn't damage the casing layer by bruising it due to the force of the mist hitting the mycelia. I also use a spray bottle that has a really fine mist and doesn't throw out big drops of water, just a fine, fine mist. That's how I do it and I am sure some people will cringe at the thought-but it works and it is one of my key factors to my huge flushes=it's all about the water

If theres adequate FAE for it to evaporate there should be no problem direct misting...if you do direct mist take off the lid and allow to vent for a couple hours so it can evaporate off/into your mushrooms OR casing...either way I wouldn't recommend directly misting your knots for this could damage it...I CALL THAT BULLSHIT FOR THE SIMPLE FACT IS it rains outside straight onto the mushrooms...they don't abort because they have adequate FAE for it to be evaporated off...I think that only applied to people who use polyfill who can't get the right moisture for it to evaporated as polyfills made for so called "FAE and Humidity" I still laugh at this because that's the reason why they can't pull off more then 2 flushes without it contaminating. O primordia ... tahoe did a tek on this about 'direct misting' I wouldn't because this could damage the knot...I'd hold it a foot or so away and have the vapor land on it.

My friend gives it light misting bursts just as doc34 says and then he mists the sides of the casing container.

If you fail to mist the casing layer, it will dry out and performance will be poor. Even at 99% humidity, the casing layer will dry, and that moisture must be replaced by misting. RR

Some people say you have to mist indirectly because if you mist too close or if thick of a stream comes out you could damage mycelium. I never got that because it rains outside and the mycelium seems to do fine.

i think the real reason some people say NOT to mist directly is because the chance for contams to cling to the water drops, outside this is not an issue due to the infinite amount of FAE
personally i think if you are supplying proper amounts of FAE you can mist directly all you want, just make sure to set the spray bottle to "mist" and not "spray". that way you will not bruise or damage any mushies or myc

This poll was pointless.
Some people were seriously saying you had mist indirectly by spraying it in the air far away from the casing because any direct misting could damage the mycelium.

you dont want to be spraying jets of water on the shit from a pressure washer but you CAN directly mist. i do it all the time. just keep it a good 6-8" away.

Like I said above. As long as you provide adequate FAE it does not matter BUT...I wouldn't mist directly on uncased casings...I dunno though personally...When there outdoors it rains and it doesn't seam to harm them...I think a test would be to take a uncased substrate outside and let the rain hit it hard and see what happens.

so if I had a 1/2 gallon jar of spawn and just got one of those big 18"x48" tubs and filled it with 6+ inches of coir and cased it. Whould that just be a huge ass flush??
